    Winchester Model 62-A

If its a .22LR you should be able to shoot any .22 rimfire out of it (.22LR, .22L, or .22S).. it might have a little difficulty feeding the shorter cartridges.. but other than that it should be fine.. The challenge with my .22 Long is that it can only fire .22L... .22LR wont fit in the...

    Winchester Model 62-A

I’ve got the Win 1890 version (essentially the same gun.. just a little bit earlier make) that I’m currently rebuilding... fun little rifle.. What caliber is yours? Depending on the yer of manufacture (pretty easy to find out by running the serial number), condition of your gun, and the...

    What did you shoot today?

Absolutely true... For big bores there is a significant cost savings.. A box of Barnes TSX factory 375 H&H ammo is about $80.. I can load the same round, using the premium Barnes TSX projectile, etc to the same specs as the factory ammo for about $35.. With the 416 Taylor its even more...

    What did you shoot today?

Really depends on the game and the location I am hunting.. I've got a custom SR Mauser in 7x57 that I built that I really like for deer and pigs.. its a short gun and is handy in a blind or a stand and is quick to shoulder on a spot-n-stalk type hunt.. but its not the most accurate gun in my...

That is an impressive beast! While I am sure your nephew would object.. I am betting he would be a seriously tasty beast as well! :)

    What did you shoot today?

375 R is a very good cartridge.. it brings a few things that the 35W doesnt.. If youre an international hunter, 375 is the smallest caliber allowed in many countries for dangerous game.. So while you can hot load a 35 Whelen to very close to 375 H&H ballistics, it doesnt meet the caliber...

    What did you shoot today?

I love the 35 whelen.. with the right load there is literally nothing in the western hemisphere the whelen cant tackle.. anything from whitetail to polar bear can be on the menu.. its truly one of the worlds most underrated cartridges IMO.. load it down and its great for thinner skinned medium...

    What did you shoot today?

TX squirrels arent nearly as tough as Nevada squirrels... I just use the 375 H&H to keep the tree rats under control around here... :) I built the 416 Taylor earlier this year specifically for cape buffalo.. I'm heading over to South Africa again in June hoping to find a big, nasty, old dagga...

    What did you shoot today?

all of this big bore talk made we want to hit the reloading bench today... loaded up 40 rounds of 416 Taylor (400gr Barnes TSX projectile over 70 grains of H4895)... 416T next to a 165gr 308 I also loaded for perspective... All sorts of shoulder hurting goodness in a 416T :)

    Bow Hunters

I've got some rage mechanicals that I picked up last year when midwayusa put them on clearance.. but I havent ever shot them.. I know a lot of guys rave about the superiority of mechanicals (better accuracy, bigger wound channels, etc).. but I dont shoot much past about 30 yards and dont have a...

    Couple new toys

nice pick up on both.. Im still kicking myself in the ass for not buying a scorpion last year when I had a chance.. A guy had one still NIB.. he bought it and realized he had over spent a month later and needed to pay some bills.. and was willing to sell it for $675... it was still in the box...

    Bow Hunters

I used to hunt with G5's. They are very good, rugged broadheads.. My problem with them is they dont come razor sharp out of the package, and the steel is very hard which makes them more difficult to sharpen than other options.. so I stopped using them last season and moved on to stingers...

    Hooten & Young Cigars

thanks @sean and @BradMc ... the past couple of years have been busy, and my online presence has diminished quite a bit... I've been finishing up another degree program, got a couple of promotions at work, etc.. and have pretty much been swamped for the past 24+ months.. There's some light at...

    Hooten & Young Cigars

I'm sure most folks reading this remember the character Norm "Hoot" Hooten played by Eric Bana in the movie Blackhawk Down. The real Norm Hooten is a personal acquaintance/friend. He just went into the cigar business... Last week at the 25th Anniversary reunion of Task Force Ranger (the TF...

    What did you shoot today?

I did the range thing yesterday too.. re-zero'd one of the 308's (replaced the scope) and got some practice in with the 7x57 prepping for deer, and threw 4 different "heavy" 5.56 loads down range to see which ones grouped the best (pig poppers).. looks like my hunting AR prefers Hornady Black...
