Start with good, easy to find tobacco..I wish someone would have suggested Prince Albert or carter hall when I started. It's really good tobacco that taste good, and stays lit well which help builds confidence. Don't chase the unicorns right away, if you have no base for what the cheaper stuff...

I use the zippo butane inserts, both the torch and the pipe soft flame versions, they work great Jetlites are hard to beat for $5 I have also has great luck with vertigo torch lighters, they get great reviews and cost around $20
