I did my first run with 5 friends and my wife. Did it to see if I could do it, that was my reason. I was able to complete all obstacles with no help, so I was pleased with that. But it's meant to be a team event. It's not a timed event either. And there's no way I'd run ten miles any other way.
We went with an early start time and didn't have a logjam on any of the obstacles; we were able to step up and get on with it. There is definitely time to stop, rest, snap a picture, etc. but with 10-12 miles of running through mud, up and down hills, and the obstacles, a few minutes of walk is certainly necessary every now and then. There's no way I'd be able to run the whole thing with no breaks
My training consists of mostly HIIT (high impact interval training). I usually do 45-60 minutes of that 4-5 times a week with weight lifting after the hiit workout. I do two days of running as well; four miles over pittsburgh hills. I'm leaning out with a dedicated diet and have lost about 20 pounds since the last run. I haven't weighed in for a few weeks, but that was the last count. The weight loss is all body fat and fir the first time, at age 40, I can see 4 of my abs. Only two more to go.
