BoM Sept '14 & BoY 2014
Well, a make a wish I got from Dave had 4 blind review sticks in it and I had a lot of fun doing the psjc reviews so I'm wasting no time jumping right in!
Size: short robo? Looks like 4.5x50? Might just be deceiving Robo where the dark wrapper makes it look a wee bit smaller
Cut: Xi3 redwood, I just got this recently and highly recommend anyone without a good cutter to get one, makes a huge difference. Glad I finally got one.
Smells like oiliness, I can't narrow it down but I smell oiliness
Construction is nice. Looks intimidating, but clean with medium veins, dark wrapper, single cap, and semi firm throughout.
Initial cut glides right through like butter. Scent after cut is sweet tobacco, maybe cinnamon but can't nail it. Still learning
Cold draw is sweet with easy draw.
Kids are sleeping, wife is uploading pics for her upcoming scrapbook weekend, tigers already won today so I'm relaxing with the royals currently losing and I'm ready to fire this bad boy up.
Torches up with no prob. Just slow roasted the foot and by the time I take the first puff she is open and throwing back smoke with ease as expected.
A nice slow puff with a relaxed exhale and slight retro gives me a little spice with a leathery thick feel. I feel a little of the cinnamon/baking spice but it is very mellow. I was anticipating a spicy punch in the mouth given the look of this guy, but the spice is subtle and feels much more medium than I anticipated.
Stepped up the retro amount. The baking spice is a little stronger but everything is subtle including the spice. Maybe a little grassy flavor left on the tongue with a short finish the loners very lightly.
I was thinking roma craft when just looking but the flavor profile says no way. Very mild flavors thus far. Not bad, just mild.
Intermission: why don't these kc royals just lay down. I need some playoff baseball in my life next week with the tigers. Their pitching is stacked and they match up against the Orioles all too well. Hopefully, anibal is back in a bullpen role. Because that bullpen we got suuuuucks!
About a half inch into this stick and the flavors remain subtle. A grassy, creamy but nothing much more.
Burning just fine. And you can't tell that wrapper doesn't indicate a spice bomb! But it's not. It's relaxing and calm. But I won't lie, hoping she picks up the pace on something. Not necessarily spice, but some more flavor is all.
Speaking of scrapbook weekend I get a couple days of just me and the kids. Pretty excited about it. My daughter is friggin hilarious. A 2 year old fill of energy and curiosity. Starting to strong words together so our communication is improving making us closer. Definitely has my temper which is scary, but also semi entertaining. My seven month old son is quite the little spark plug. He army crawls, not real crawl, and all he wants to do is stands and walk while I hold his hands. Might skip crawling all together. I've made him do little exercises since he was strong enough to hold his head up. It's paying off because he is a strong lil bugger. Can't wait to toss a ball around with him. Or like Costner said "have a catch"
Royals lose! F-ers!!!
This cigar has held steady at exactly what I described prior. Maybe adding a little sweetness but about the same. Again, not bad, just not mind blowing out of the gate. It's be great if this was a stick that built as it went as opposed to coming out the gate like lightning only to tire and lag down the stretch. I hate that!
Ash holding tightly, burn staying even, draw is remarkable and effortless which how I personally prefer.
Listening to the kills on my headphones. Good background right now. Upbeat and a little different.
Tigers clinched a wild card so I'm guaranteed one game so far. Magic number 3
Thinking about ashing since I don't want to lap it but I'll wait. I wear the same jeans everyday so I'd be happier without ash on them but whatever. Found a study that said jeans can't get any dirtier than when you wear for two weeks. I say they get their most comfortable after four weeks. Anybody care to debate this lol? Would love to hear you're jeans wearing practices btw
Inch long ash, same flavors. Indifferent about this so far. About to head into second third territory so we will see where the journey leads.
Entering second third. Smoke production is fantastic, burn is not perfect but no complaints or touch ups.
Ashed right after this
Strength has increased a bit, flavors a little thicker but not discernable.
Switched to sleigh bells on the headphones...
I'm guessing Dave's 3/5 King name is a poker reference. He's probably lost a shitload of cash chasing that hand due to one early victory with it. Random thought of the day
My best ever win was on pocket dueces on my honeymoon cruise. Won about $800 after three people called my pre flop raise which was weird. Flopped trips and watched everybody acting before me bet, raise, raise.....ummmm all in? Call, call, call....thanks!!! Great end to a ten hour stretch in the Mediterranean.
The random thoughts are more due to this stick not wowing me than they are from racing thoughts...Or both.
Flavors aren't impressing, obvious, or really even there. Just an average stick with little excitement. Again, not bad, just not great or even necessarily good for that matter. And might need a touch up soon.
Another random thought...I hope Jeter chimes back for another year just to slap everybody in the face. Won't happen but how legendary would that be.
Flavors at the mid point are a little spice, some creamy, maybe a very slight chocolate. Not much doing. Leaning budget sick at this point. No clue which one but I'd say a nica stick that can be had for a few bucks on the right sites. I was going to smoke a padron fr but opted for the joy of a blind review. Still not upset with my decision. Stick isn't harsh, still smooth, retros pretty easily.
The burn line keeps self correcting which is nice. No touch ups.
Sleigh bells was enjoyable but switching to some radiohead, love these dudes
My son Henrik passed out milk drunk tonight lol
And my daughter Olivia is a clown
Love these little gems
Entering last third. C'mon stogie, I'm rooting for you!
Still similar flavors, maybe a little richer but not much. A little grassy, some leather maybe, light spice which could just be a little harshness at this point. Thus has to be a budget stick, or it's just not my fix. No judgement Dave, but I know you expect me to be honest
Don't think it's harsh, maybe just picking up strength. If I'm right about budget stick it's not a bad one. If it's $8+ then it's not good. Call it $6 msrp, $3 devils site seems fair.
I'll give this thing a lot of props for self correction. Even after last pic it straightened right back out. I've said before I'd rather smoke an average stick that burns great than a great stick that burns bad.
Switched to black keys for finale of the night. Like these guys sound. I believe agentskull gets credit for this one. Jazzy sounding.
Wish I had more stick input, but remains dull and plain. Reiterate, not bad. Definitely a far cry from my other choice tonight but glad I still have because I'm getting tired. Was up too late last night with a tat be reserva. Was worth it
Smoke production remains top notch though. Thick smoke, easy draw, great construction. 3/4" ash at a time. Everything good in that department.
I know Dave smokes a ton of cigars, 3-5 daily I believe. 3/5 King? The mystery of the name. Maybe he smokes 3/5 of cigars then tosses them? Which is it Dave?!?
First touch up needed, no complaints
Maybe Dave sent this stick trying to trick me into giving a great review only to be told it's a budget stick. Conspiracies I tell you...
Snaked my first drain yesterday. That sucked but saved a lot of coin. Plumber1965 has one hell of a career man. Don't flush baby wipes!!!
This stick never changed up anything. Faint flavors seemed to want to join the party but never did. Retro was semi enjoyable throughout but I've been spoiled with a lot of mind blowing sticks from you guys on botl so my palette has evolved a lot in the past six to eight months where my standards have gotten a little snobby at times but that's ok because I've just come to really appreciate fine cigars. Bombs reviews are great means of expanding the palette because they force you to focus intensely on what your tasting. I'd line to see more people doing these. Hopefully a trend is forming here!
If I had to score this I'd say on my imaginary scale it's a 60, but on the ultra hype advertising scale it probably falls at an 85 or so. Great construction, burn, and draw but minimal flavor and zero complexity. Enjoyable experience adding in the blind review factor and getting lost in some tunes and random thoughts.
The smoking experience is always great regardless, let's be honest

A big thank you to Dave once again for sending me the challenge. More to follow!
So Dave...what the hell is this?
Ps- the best answer ever would be a counterfeit Cuban btw
I'm going to bed!(which means lay in bed on my phone for a half hour, pee twice, then lay there for awhile until I pass out.
