  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Ever since I had an "original" 5V Cask Strength, I was a big fan. I never had any money at the time I did smoke one, so I wasn't able to buy a box, otherwise I would have.

When the 5V Cask Strength II was released, I was excited at the idea of being able to get a box of them, since I did have the money to spare, so I bought them and waited with great anticipation. Early May of last year is when I made the purchase, so they have a little over a year of age and rest on them.

First, I'll start off with the good:
  • Great flavors, you get a mix of spice, creaminess and smoothness
  • I love the feel to these...They're box pressed and overall have a great feel when in the hand/fingers
  • TONS of smoke, it's like my mouth is a chimney!
  • One of the things that has annoyed me with some of the 5 Vegas line is the annoying and large bands...this one keeps it simple, yet elegant

Now, the bad:
  • You're going to have to dry box these...I don't know if I got a bad batch or what, but I'm constantly having to relight these suckers and the rate I'm puffing is way too fast for my desired pace
  • I constantly have to purge when I smoke these, as well. While the flavors you do get are awesome, they get riddled with terrible tasting flavors that pop up more often than they should
  • Very, very uneven burn. Touch ups are a must as you smoke

They aren't bad cigars, but I'll put it this way...If I'm at a party, these would be the first I'd hand out to people, I'd keep the good smokes for myself and for my friends that know what a good cigar is. They aren't bad for the price you pay, but I'd say there are definitely better options out there. I have my go to cigars in the 5 Vegas line, such as the Miami, but the 2nd generation Cask Strengths aren't one of them. I'd say look for other options before you pull the trigger on these.

Thanks to my Newbie sampler pack from GoingPostal, I got to try out a 5 Vegas Cask Strength (I or II, I don't remember). I absolutely loved it! I didn't have any problems keeping mine lit, so maybe I just lucked out.

Great cigar!

Like most cigars CI related these are cigars that most new cigar smokers enjoy. When I first started smoking cigars on a daily basis these were one of my favs. I don't much care for that stuff anymore but it has it's place in this hobby. Thanks for your review!

I love the Miami and if I could get some of the 1st versions of the Cask Strength on a regular basis, they'd be a go to smoke.

I got a 5-pack of these about a year ago, and for some reason they sent me 2 5-ers...which was ok because I think I only have one left. Definitely a nice stick, I didn't have the same burn problems as you, but it might have been a different batch? They were a bit dryer for me if I remember correctly. Nice review!!
