Size: 5 1/2" x 55
Shape: Toro (box press)
Wrapper: PA broadleaf
Binder: Brazil
Filler: Honduras, Nicaraguan
Retail price: around $3 - 4
Location: Evening rush hour traffic
Interesting looking cigar and appropriately named as this has a very square box press. The band is very striking, with the gold, brown and copper colors really a good fit against the dark, toothy wrapper. Nice mellow tobacco + cedar aromas.
The ring gauge is definately larger than I prefer, but it's not too bad. I opened the end with a punch and held the foot to the fire.
1st half: Right away I found an effortless draw that produced a TON of smoke. I had to open the driver's window quickly before the fog bank settled in. Good flavors of sweet tobacco, leather, black pepper and cocoa. The pepper was especially evident on the long finish and really tickled the back of my throat. Even burn, solid ash. I'd put this at mild-med strength, and medium body.
2nd half: Not much change in draw or burn. The strength and body have picked up a touch. On the flavors, the pepper has mostly faded into the background with the tobacco and cocoa flavors being the main show. Took this down to the band point when my commute ended (about 45 min).
Overall: A pretty decent stick. Nothing earth shaking, just a consistent performance and something I'd consider a good value.
