  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

1 month rest at 69%

Don't waste the money. The thing started off tasting like a stale cigarette. Then about .5" in it started showing some peanut tendencies. Mostly it was just boring tobacco. The second third introduced an occasional leather and coffee combo. It was still mostly boring tobacco with no real flavor or soul. Then I got a taste of a cooking spice. It reminded me of something my wife's aunt uses when cooking authentic Mexican dishes. Then it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. We were back to boring tobacco at a body and strength level generously described as mild.

Oh, and the construction was horrible. The foot cracked shortly after lighting. After the ash dropped the first time it wouldn't hold on for more than .25". Then about half way through the second third the cigar bulged and began ripping along a particularly large seam/vein. It looked like they wrapped it with the part of the leaf from right beside the stalk and then tried to cover it with a scrap they ripped off of another leaf.

After 90 minutes I was barely past the middle of the second third. So, I just gave it up and tossed it in the ash bin. It was not worth another thirty minutes of my day.

I have the original version of this which was blended by DPG. I'm not sure why they went away from his blend, but I have a hunch it has to do with cost. From what I hear the original blend was actually a pretty good smoke. I'll have to burn it sometime soon and report back on it.

For reference the old band looked more like this:

I'd have to ask the brother who sent it to me how old it is, I'm interested in knowing now.

I have one of the old ones, too, resting. Sounds like the new one is a typical CI piece of junk...

Yup. Another decent smoke ruined by CI. The old ones were pretty decent. I wouldn't call them great, but they were decent. Sorry to hear the new ones are terrible.

Hate to hear this, I occasionally like the 5 Vegas Gold as a mild stick when I'm working around the yard. For the money I thought it was a good mild stick. Haven't had one it a while, hope it hasn't been ruined as well.

I still have some 5 Vegas blends in my humidor, but I won't be buying any more. They are too hit or miss. If you buy a 5 pack, you may get a good smoke out of 1 or 2. Just not worth it when there are other brands out there that are consistently good.

Wow, I didn't know they changed the blend, that stinks. I had one two or three years ago and thought it was decent. I always liked the A and AAA. The gold was decent, but too mild for me. The Gold maduro I did not like at all.
