I still have a few sticks from when these were initially released. Haven't tried all of the 601's but I do enjoy the Blue with a little age on them. I thought I read that the new 601 Blue label is suppose to be the same blend, just a label change. Can anyone verify? Thinking of picking up some but would much rather prefer the blend to have remained the same. Thx

I'm wondering the same. Now that Rocky is involved with them I'm not sure whether to buy. Been really disappointed with RPs of late.

I've been told by one shop that it's the same blend and factory... another shop said that the blend was tweaked. So, I'm not sure. I have an older box of these as well and they are great.

Concerning the comment on RP.... couldn't agree more. I haven't had one since 2007.

All the 601s are the same as they have always been, with the exception that Eddie said they were going to tweak the blend of the Red ... but I don't know if that's happened yet or not.

RP is the DISTRIBUTOR of these (including packaging), like Drew Estates is the distributor of Joya de Nicaragua (except in this case RP owns 1/2 the company) ... but the Joyas are still made at the Joya factory. Everything from EO is still made at the My Father factory, and it's all great, imvho.

Thanks fellow Botler's. I'm going to take the plunge! The only RP I've ever enjoyed is the "Connecticut". I find that to be an enjoyable morning smoke with a cup of coffee, on those rare occasions I'm able to enjoy a morning smoke. I think it may be a CI exclusive.

I really enjoy the 601 blues after 6 months or more of rest. I, too hope the new change does not affect the taste and quality. I have A 5-pack on the way....hope they're just as good as the old ones.

For those who don't know. Word from 601 from what I've heard is due to poor feedback on the new bands they will be switching back to the old bands. :)

Funny you should mention that, I just received my 5 pack and while the bands are not what was shown on the website, they were not the original bands from when they were first released. So I'm counting 3 band changes??? What's the point? I just want a good cigar!

During Cigarfest last Apr/May, I had the chance to talk to the rep there. Le's just say he seemed a tad "embarrased" by the plain labels and said then that the intent was to go back to the originals. The plains were supposed to be a temporay fix when they ran out of the regualr bans, on all types at teh same time shortly afte the transition.

Cigars themselves were supposed to be the same.

Oh and I like the green labels best, FWIW.

I have talked to Eddie Ortega about this more then once because all of the rumors. All the blends from the old cigars are still the same and still being made at My Father factory. RP had a video on youtube saying the Red was going to be tweaked, its a old video and Eddie told me "he doesn't know what he is talking about" and lastly the bands that are on the cigars now are what is going to be on them, they are not going back to the old ones.

The red definitely got tweaked. It's nowhere near as good as it used to be, IMO. Really wish they'd bring back the original blend. It's night and day different!
