  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

601 Habano Robusto by Don Pepin

I've got a few pepin's in the Humi, You hear a lot about them, so i've picked up a few.

Recently, I have tried 2 of the 601 series, i have others in the humi.

Last night I sparked up a 601 Habano Robusto.

At Havanna's they tote this cigar as a Full Bodied.

PRELIGHT
This is a very nice looking cigar, it has a slick looking wrapper, that may be a bit big, but it's subtle, the gold sits nicely on the red. It had a pleasant aroma, almost spicey... i found out why later. The prdraw was easy, and seemed like I was getting ready to enjoy a nice smoke.
I used my XiKar cutter to clip the cigar cap, I love my cuts with it..
I took a pre-light draw and the initial flavors were as spicey as the smell!

THE LIGHT
I lit the cigar very easily with 2 matches, the head quickly toasting and lighting, it caught evenly and easily, and the draw was very easy and full from the start..I could immediatly taste some nice spicey, pepper, maybe some other stuff. The ash was burning a clean white, with a very even ring tone.

THE FIRST THIRD
The first third of the cigar was great! I was captivated by the ammount of spice I could taaste, one of the first times I really tasted that much spice in a cigar, and tasted so clearly, the aroma pleasant mixing the air around me. After an inch or so, a mellow tobacco flavored started to blend with the spice, but the key was still spice.

THE SECOND THIRD
More of the same great spice, burnin like a chapion, must have gone nearly 2 inches before ashing. Ash strong and white, smoke just the right temperture, the cigar burning perfectly even.

THE FINAL THIRD
The spice still kicking, I smoked this guy to the nub, almost burning my finger tips, guy next to me said i needed a roach clip.

FINAL THOUGHTS
Yummy spice!!!
Appearance- 12/15
Draw- 9/10 Smooth, and tastey.
Burn- 10/10 Never had to worry about it.
Ash- 8/10 Excellent. Solid throughout,
Smoke- 8/10 Full, even, great smoke
Flavor- 18/20
Uniqueness- 8/10 (I havent smoked enough cigars to really judge this one)
Finish- 14/15

Total=87

One of the only Pepins to disappoint me. I tried one and just got nothing. The other four are resting to try again. After this review, I may pull one out and try.

Chuck, my palatte is not so refined, so it's possible I am over excited becuase of the spice, and that fact that I could see it.
No promises you will like as much as I did, but i thought it was a great cigar that popped and kicked.

Great review, I like these as well. I have to say I have found them to be straight forward though. Have you tried the 601 Black, also very nice.

Great review. I am sitting on one of these that I will have to try based on your review. I picked it up with a 601 Blue and the Blue knocked me on my hind parts. Have not mustered the courage to go near the Red one until now. Thanks for the review and the shot of courage!

i picked up a couple blues, havent tried them yet.
they have a really small red label one, that is very cheap 3.50 in ny, so probably 2 and change elsewhere, it's a great short smoke, 30-45 minutes.

I've been wanting to give them a try. I'll be in Miami this week for a friends 50th Birthday, I'll add it to my list to try this week.

I like these enough to have around. I buy 5 packs about 1-2 a month, but I have to forget that it's a Pepin. For an EO brand, it's one of the better ones.
