congrats on the job
All my dealings with tech support have taught me 2 things when there is a problem unplug it for 30sec then plug it back in and see if that fixes the problem. If it doesn't then it has to be user error

LOL. That is one of the best advices I've read these days. I did tech support for a company and this usually fixed many things.

We must do the same kind of work. My latest thriller is "Windows Server 2012 Pocket Consultant"
I probably should have gotten something like that.

The "pocket" part is a joke. It's 8" x 5" and 600+ pages. So it will fit in my laptop bag but no pocket I ever saw. We just got approval to deploy our first 2012 so I've been playing with it. But 08 R2 will have a large presence for awhile yet for us and most places. Your 08 knowledge will not be wasted when you go to 12. There are lots of additional features but the underlying concepts remain from one version to the other.

All I can say in regards to 2012 is learn PowerShell. Learn it, love it, and own it.

Then you should be fine on 2012.

Considering its a headless unit, with no GUI install. (Optional to install, but not defaulted).

Enjoy the read FlyBoy.

Ditto! I job shadowed an IT guru back in high school and he gave me pretty much the exact same advice. Best I saw was a blond girl(stereotypes are for a reason) called us because her printer wasn't working, it was powered off... Couple years later I did DirecTV installing in the skyscrapers here in Seattle and every time there was a problem we just unplugged the splitter or amplifier for a minute and when it reset the problem was always resolved unless the hardware was bad.
