A Minor Mystery (At Least to Me)

I needed some pipe cleaners so I ordered the 10-pack of BJ Long from Amazon today.

I just noticed that each pack/bundle contains 56 pipe cleaners. What an odd number! I'd expect 25 or 50, or 40, or some other number. But 56?

Maybe they used existing packaging design and was cheaper not to redesign

Possibly, but the "packaging" is a piece of paper wrapped around a bunch of cleaners.

I'm guessing that it has to do with the amount of cleaners that the machines can hold at any one time while packaging.

My dad owns a sausage factory. Sells breakfast sausage by the ten pound box. A guy I used to deliver to would count the links, not weigh the box mind you. Roughly 140-145 links give or take lol

Ha! I didn't count them. It's listed on the package.

I am going to take a guess and only a guess....

When they make pipe cleaners they are made in a huge long one. maybe the 56 is what one of the rolls they sale come out to . So without trying to figure out a way to send you a roll that you will need to cut to your own lengths they cut them down made them straight and packaged them in what they cut out too. It is interesting for sure why 56 and not 50 or 60..
