  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

A pipe of briar by the fire and a book that's not to new.

Any place my friends are. Old friends, new friends, the guy at the end of the bar who came over for no other reason then to sit and talk and mention he didn't think people smoked pipes anymore, makes no difference. Having a smoke is indeed a wonderful thing, sharing a smoke is an event!
Are you still able to smoke in the bars where you live ?!

There are two places in my side of the state that are cigar shops and have been grandfathered out of the non-smoking laws provided they maintain a certain percentage of tobacco sales. One is Deadwood Tobacco Co, conveniently located in Deadwood, SD. The front of the place is your more traditional bar setting and sees a fair amount of tourist business in the summers. That's generally where people are surprised to see pipes being smoked. The back is where all the leather couches and humidor is. The funny thing is that the back area is connected to the hotel upstairs and it's quite entertaining to hear foot steps bouncing down the stairs, the door open up and people look in with shock that there's smoke in the air and people have cigars and pipes. They usually mutter some choice words about how they are now tainted for life and they will go someplace else to "get my drink on" as one lady so eloquently phrased it.

My favorite place for a pipe currently is sitting on my patio overlooking the small manmade lakes that are all through the apartment complex, especially as the sun sets. I actually prefer to be alone when I smoke a pipe, I find it much more relaxing when I can be alone with my pipe and my thoughts. For social situations I still prefer a cigar, probably since it requires less attention than my pipes tend to. We have several "Cigar Bars" here where we can go get a drink and smoke but I haven't taken a pipe to one yet.

Depends on the seasons. Spring, summer and most of the fall, I'm parked in the backyard. I usually don't go to my local B&M until I put my shorts away for the winter and when the hair falls off my legs haha. So my cigars in there have quite some rest time.

But I'm with @BrewinHooligan and I too prefer to smoke my pipes alone. Sometimes with my cigars too. Or I'll get in my truck and take a slow drive around town to forget about life for a while.
