A trip to the butcher's shop ...

We decided to hit the Acropolis Meats and Deli shop on our little town's main street so here we have some pics of the little shop and our spoils (nothing crazy).

1/2lb of bacon ...

True story...

Portland OR has a place called the Acropolis. It's a strip club though....w/ some very nice "talent".

What's the correlation you ask?

The owner has his own cattle farm (or so I'm told), and uses it to offer Sirloin steak dinners for $6.95. Not even kidding when I say they're some damn fine steaks too. It's even got a salad bar (whoodathunkit!?)...and a ton of beers on tap!

Anyone visiting Portland....put it on your list as a must see. It may look like a shithole on the outside.....but some good times can be had inside.

I've yet to ever purchase bacon directly from a butcher. Is there usually a noticeable difference in quality/taste/texture/price?

biggest difference is you get to call the cut, and if you want thick cut, oven bacon, you gotta go butcher.

Swinger - Where is your butcher located? I grew up in Chicago down the street from a butcher shop. Seeing those pictures brought back memories, especially the smells of smoked meats and sausages.

I have a butcher shop around the corner from where I live. I will not purchase meat(s) from a retail grocery store, only from the butcher. The attention to detail on the cuts of meat is so much better than anything you can find in the grocery store. Also, most good butcher shops smoke their own cuts of meat. Ergo, for quality bacon, go to a butcher. You will not have chemically infused or injected bacon.

This butcher's shop is in downtown Tarpon Springs, FL.

Oddly enough I grew up in Hanover Park, Il (western suburb of Chicago). Tell me that new Gatorade commercial doesn't get you worked up a little bit ... the one with Jordan highlights and Phil talking about how Jordan playing sick made him a believer that you win from the heart.

You will also have more meat in the pan after frying.

I can eat a pound of "store bought" bacon myself. I actually share that pound with my wife and kids when we get it at the butcher....

Da Coach... I had the pleasure of meeting and sitting with the Coach on several occasions while waiting for a flight at the American Airlines Admiral's Club. I was trying to be respectful, but he called me over. He couldn't have been more accommodating. I was with a group of people dining at his restaurant a few years ago, and when we approached to say hello, he remembered me from our few chats at O'Hare Airport!

The Jordan years were something very special; I'm glad I watched as much Bulls basketball as I could during that era. Everytime they took to the court, you (and they) knew they would win. D Rose is something special, as well. But, there is nothing like Jordan, Pippen and Grant; or, Jordan, Pippen and Rodman.

I grew up during the lean years of Bulls basketball and will always treasure that dynasty...
