  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Acu-Rite 00613 Digital Hygrometer
Price: $7-9 at Wal-Mart

I found this hygrometer near the paints, glues, sealants, etc. I guess they vary from Wal-Mart to Wal-Mart. Just ask a clerk where the thermometers are and (if they speak English ) they'll point you towards the right direction.

The hygrometer looks very attractive compared to the other ones you usually find at Wal-Mart for the same price. It requires a 1 AA battery (not included) to operate. It has a magnetic strip on the back of the pager-like clip to attach it to metal surfaces. It also has a pin designed to turn the clip into a stand. It has a button on the back to change the Temp reading from F to C. Do you basic salt test and you should be good to go.

Before salt test.

After salt test (48 hours).

Verdict:

Overall, a nice digital hygrometer for the price. + It's cheap, takes AA battery, and you can find it locally.

Its nice they take AA batteries. The ones that I have take the special battery that cost as much as the damn hygrometer.

I bought a digital hygrometer/thermometer yesterday at WM. Mine is different in that it has a white case and appears smaller than the one in your picture. I am salt testing mine right now. I also bought a whole-house humidifier. I've suspected that the humidity in my house was very low. Checked it with one of my humidor hygros and it was in the 20's in here. It's been playing havoc on my desk top humis, even though I have the beads in all of them ( I have 6 of varying sizes). Set the humidifier up this morning and it's already raised the humidity up 9 points.

I bought 4 of these and they all read 3-8% low, did anyone have one that was on the high side?
One of mine is about 4% high, and the other is 1 point low. The others I took back because they were really off. I'm gonna go back and pick up the small, white ones, and see how they are.

Those hygros look great with the perfect readings for me, but I just wish they were adjustable. The few I bought were all about 4% low after multiple salt tests and using the boveda packs. I am using them, but it just bugs me seeing the low numbers...

I bought a few more than I needed opened them all to check accuracy with the salt test. Kept the most accurate ones and returned the rest
