Advice Needed on Good Sipping Rum

I have mainly been a bourbon drinker for years but the year before last, one of our fine Canadian brothers hooked me up with a bottle of Havana Club 7 in the SS exchange and I absolutely loved it. It was the best rum I ever had and it paired great with every stick I smoked with it (thank you once again Santa, you know who you are). I drank it neat and it spoiled me for anything else I’ve tried. Does anyone who has had the Havana Club 7 know what other rum would be comparable to it that I can buy locally?

I have not yet found any non-cuban brands that closely compare. The one I suggest would be Zaya which is not to bad for the price (26.99 Bevmo)

I haven't had Havana Club 7... I'm a big scotch drinker and like you prefer to drink my hard liquors neat.

When I do drink rum, I drink Zaya rum. Stay thirsty my friend!

I think it's worth giving it a shot even though I can't personally compare it to Havana Club 7... I'm so impressed with Zaya that I'm going out on a limb and recommending it, even though I'm more knowledge about scotch.

Give Flor De Cana Centenario a try. Zapaca 23 is also great but i find it a bit to sweet.

Anything with some age (5-7 or more years) is great.

Looks like I have a few I need to try. Zaya seems to have the most recommendations so I’ll start there and then check out the others.

I was inspired by this thread and finally picked up a bottle of Zaya yesterday. Couldn't find any Diplomatico but that's on the list as well.

I think this is the closest thing to Cuban rum. Most other rums are usually quite a bit sweeter. At a smoker earlier this year I brought a bottle and Jesus Fuego loved it.
