  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I've been gone for a while, but getting back to this wonderful place. Have some reviews to get typed up and with the holiday weekend upon us it's going to be a good time to do that. To kick things off here's the most recent quickie...

Last night I had to pick a few items up from Walgreen's and decided since the wife and kids were already in bed that I'd just walk. It's only a few blocks away so I picked up this cigar from the humitdor and decided I'd take the "scenic route". From what I've read the wrapper on this cigar is a 2003 vintage Indonesian Sumatra leaf that the company sourced from a German manufacturer. Wherever it came from it's nice looking with mottled light/reddish brown and darker, chocolate brown colors. Feels well rolled and the box press fits comfortably in the mouth. Clipped the cap and the draw was spot on. Flipped the top on the Ronson, pushed the striker, and brought life to this cigar. The pre-light draw had some light peppery tingle to it, but man the first few draws were pretty intense with the peppery heat. And it built. There were some notes of cedar there too, but it was overwhelmed by the pepper. The pepper finally started to die down and the cedar came to the forefront. Stayed pretty much cedar with some notes of leather and pepper for the remainder of the cigar. The burn was pretty good throughout.

While it wasn't bad, overall I wasn't a big fan. Construction was good and while the flavors were okay I feel like the pepper was a little too intense initially. Also a little more complexity/change in the flavors would have been appreciated, but in a 4.5" x 46 cigar how much can you expect...this isn't a Churchill. I also feel the price tag on this is a little high to be getting regularly. That said, there seems to be plenty of people out there that like 'em so your milage may vary.

Thanks for the review. My experience has been different. I've loved it from start to finish, that size specifically.
