  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone have much experience with these?

I'm just getting really frustrated not being able to smoke due to it being winter.

I was hoping I could have a room in the house where I can smoke a cigar, then purify the air afterwards.

But are they effective?

That is, are they effective to the point where you cannot tell someone was smoking?

I live with people who would not accept any amount of smell remaining in a room, so it's of utmost importance that, if I decide to start smoking indoors, I do not make it unpleasant for the others in the house.

I have both an Alpine Air purifier like this:
http://www.airpurifierrepair.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ID=55&ProductId=642

And an in the celing one, forget the name and model but it it the same one the have installed in the boardroom at MyFather cigars...

My experience, they could not stop the smoke from going up through the floorboard above the basement. They do a decent job of clearing the air after smoking though..

Also, if you have carpet in the area which you smoke, the smell will stay areound much longer.

I have been banned from smoking in the house so I actually had the Alpine Air for sale here once and it is still up for sale if you want to discuss PM me....

Overall, in my situation, carpet, upper level floor not sealed, it just was not happening..

Other have had great success...

Don't scrub the air exhaust it. Sit next to the fan(pointing out) with the open window. Once done shut the window and turn on the csonka. If you have a heat/ac return vent in the room block it.

Btw when people start there stoves on fire and smoke fills the kitchen we don't bring in "air cleaners". We use a high powered "ejector" to exhaust the smoke out and bring in fresh air. The Ozonator simply cleans the room from leftover toxins (floors walls carpets) of any small amounts that never got exhausted in the first place. Sitting by the fan eliminates most of the problem to begin with imo.

It's a pipe dream, but can be achevied but may be more trouble than its worth. How big a space are we talking? Is it carpet, woodfloor, tile? How soon do you need the smell to go away? Is there a window you can have open while you smoke?

Lived in an apartment where we would have poker nights with a couple of smokers, mainly cigarettes. livingroom was Linoleum floor. we would have one of these bad boys running. [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00008OOX2/ref=cm_rdp_product"]Amazon.com: Honeywell 50150 Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier: Kitchen & Dining@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51D228TA9FL.@@AMEPARAM@@51D228TA9FL[/ame]on high a bit noisy. After everyone done smoking febreeze everything that is fabric in the room which was curtains and couches and leave the purifier on low overnight. worked sometimes hint of smoke in air just opened a window. If you have carpet it's another thing but like i said may be more hassle than it's worth.

Use a bedroom or office with a closed door. Open window place a fan it. Open another window (cracked) preferably across the room. Most importantly by one of these and turn it on for a half hour after smoking.

*Do not stay in the room with the Ozone generator.*

Have to agree with Justin on this one, if you can do it. I used to spray paint alot in my garage and this was the method I used. Worked perfectly and if I had to smoke in a room I'd do the same exact thing. I've done alot of research on air purafiers and have found that most if not all fail at some point. Just not worth the money in my opinion when you can find a window fan for $20 bucks that will do it better and faster.

I bought a AllerAir 5000 DS a couple of years ago when I got back to the States. It's got like a 40 lb charcoal filter, and it was expensive as hell, but it works very well. If I have smoked an extremely heavy cigar (fresh Opus, or GOF) you can still smell a hint of smoke in the air the next morning, but within 24 hours it's gone. I have carpet, and upholstered furniture in the room and I've never used Fabreze. That said, I live by myself, so I don't have to worry about satisfying somebody else.

I use my garage. Still gotta bundle up a bit though but free's you from wind, rain, snow.

Yeah but the garage is directly under someone's bedroom. I imagine the smoke would travel upwards into their room.

Plus, the smell would definitely still be noticeable the next morning.

I smoke in my basement in the winter, similar to what's been mentioned already i put an exhaust fan in the window and sit underneath it. The smoke goes out, and you can't tell from anywhere else in the house I've been smoking (plus it's warmer than the garage!). I typically sit under the dining room which has ~40 year old hardwood floors, still no issue.

best smoking room before i owned a house was the bathroom! mini man cave with 150 CFM exhaust fan...

if you look at prices for "smoke out's" air purifiers, you will come to terms with the fact that it is cheaper to get new room mates!

I have a two story house and I have a very tolerent girlfriend.
In a ten by ten "office" type room I have a Idylis Sanitizer that works well. It is for a 15 feet space that I brought for 30 bucks from Lowes. I cut it on a hour before I smoke and leave it on over night. With that i also have a window fan and turn it to exaust.

Not bad cuz I keep the door closed as well.
Here is the Sanitizer I have.

I installed a bathroom exhaust vent and automatic air fragrance that shoots a mist every half hour in my mancave and when I smoke the next day zero cigar smell. Saturday a buddy came over for first time and he said he expected a smell and was very shocked. We smoke a couple cigars till one in the morning and no smell the next day. I have carpet fabric furniture.
