  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone have any firsthand experience with these? I have a 10 x 16 space that already has an exhaust fan, but looking for someting to get rid of the lingering odor of smoke, as well as help with the movement of air in the space.

Saw this Sharper Image one that looked to be pretty badass, but it certainly wasn't cheap - although right now they're doing a buy one get the 2nd for half off if there's anyone else interested in picking one up.

Anyway, if they're a waste of time, I'd rather find out now before dropping a couple hundo.
Thanks :)

JFire recommended an ozone generator to be run at night when nobody is in the room to eliminate the smell. I've got a commercial air purifier in my heated garage. Without any ventilation it removes all the smoke in the room and about 75% of the odor. However, it still smells like smoke. I plan on installing an exhaust fan and a fresh air intake to aid with it. I'm curious how it will do in conjunction with those upgrades. JFire still suggested the ozone generator in my case too. The air cleaner I am using is the smokemaster c-12.

Yeah I saw that reply in your thread earlier, that's what got me searching for purifiers. The one I linked above says "This indoor air purifier even converts ozone to oxygen through a patented process" which I assume is what we're after?

There are a lot of purifiers out there so you have 30 days to decide if you like it....if you don't then you can take it back and try another one until you find something that works for you.

The Ozone generator is made by Czonka. It generates Ozone. The ozone encapsulates the particles (cigar smoke) and makes them heavier then air. I belive it actuallys changes the molecules as well. Brent the one you describe sounds like it actually changes ozone to O2. That would not be positive in this situation IMO. You need to eliminate the offensive particles not make more O2. If your going with a Csonka I would either go with the big one. (expensive) or leave the smaller one on more(still expensive) I can't recommend other brands as I havnt' used them. I have the smaller Csonka unit (159.99?) on a timer from midnight to 8am. The unit is on its high setting of 5 min on and 15 mins off. It leaves me at least 4 hours of time for the room to "rest" as I never go into the room before noon. Most days even longer. If its a garage open it up in the morning and leave the unit on right until the time before peope leave in the morning. (still set it on a timer IMO.) the rabbit air while it works was 500.00 I would rather spend the money on bath fans then the rabbitt aire if I could only choose one. Always replace the air not refresh it IMO. Of course money, budgets and monthly operating costs come into play as well.

If you just want smell gone, lampe berger works great.
I've heard that as well from a few guys.
Also I don't even use the rabbitt aire unless I have a poker game going in that area of the lounge.
This is the size Ozinator I would recommend for larger rooms, garages etc.

Or be forced to run the smaller size much longer.

Truth be told the smell doesn't bother me, but the wife finds that it lingers in the air (hmm, maybe I should just leave it as is...)

I also don't want my cigar shack smelling like a boquet of flowers or anything like that, but what's the scoop on the lampe berger stuff?

That's why I use the sea mist. It's just a nice fresh scent, doesn't smell like perfume or anything. Some of the scents do but there are a few good ones.

We have two Rabbit Air purifiers at home now. I think they do a great job of day-to-day air cleaning. One a week or so I put one in my garage for a few hours to clean up that ashy smell, which the wife appreciates. I've never used it while smoking, though, that would be a good experiment.

But remember, if you don't solve the SOURCE of the smell, it will never go away! So dump the ashtray outside ... They call it a "Stinky" for a reason, lol.

Couldn't agree more Nate. I even wipe mine down every night. RELIGIOUSLY!!!!! But after smoking anywhere on a daily/regular schedule. That stale smell is going to build up......

I have a friend who smokes cigarettes in his house. One Lampe Berger and $50 and 20 minutes was all he needed. Neutral smell is the best one for those that can smell things. I'm olfactorily challenged so I'm okay with whatever.

The ozone generators are great at removing solids (smoke) from the air, but I don't think they have much effect on gases. You might look into "Energy Recovery Ventilators." They will exchange indoor and outdoor air, but recover 70~80% of the heat. They also can help with humidity control. I don't know if they make them small enough to recommend for one room, but you could probably do it for a special application, or you could incorporate it into your whole house. If you know a decent HVAC guy, they'd be familiar. It would cost more than "a couple hundo" though.

I have a RabbitAire in a space about the same size. It works great at filtering the smoke, but unless I leave it on in Auto mode 24/7 it doesn't do much for the smell. That being said, my tall, Stinky is usually only emptied when it reaches the overflow stage :)

I just recently started looking for one for my man cave. Read some good reviews on some. Don't want to get too crazy and spend hundreds of dollars. I will probably only turn it on while I'm smoking,

I had a Sharper Image deal like that, worked good for a while made the air almost smell fresher. After a while however it just crapped out, clean the ever loving snot out of it and still didn't work. I've had luck using the smoke eating candles
