  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I got this one from a sampler a long time ago and decided to finally try it out. I bought this form Thompson in my early days of smoking cigars tying to sample different brands. I only smoked it tonight, so it has been in my humidor for 2 or 3 years maybe? not sure. So it has been sitting nicely by waiting for this moment. In my estimation it was a bust. It was mild to medium at best and as best as i could describe it had a coffee taste. There was some other flavor there as well and it simply just did not taste very good at all. It also left a bad tast on my throat that lasted a long while (drinking tea right now trying to help get rid of it.) The construction was really bad as the leaf was coming off. Now, my humidor is well taken care of so it was not humidification problem. Also, the ash was not the wonderful white color most cigars i smoke have but a darker color. As the smoke continued the taste did not improve but i felt got worse, i did not finish it to completion as i simply got tired of the flavor. I am not sure if this is a problem with Alec Bradley or just this specific smoke, but i will not be buying this one again. 2/5 from me, it gets a 2 only because i have had worse, though that is not really saying much. :cbig:

Sorry to hear you didn't have a good smoking experience. I've never had one of these but I find Alec Bradley's SCR and Tempus to be great smokes especially in the smaller vitolas. That particular blend may just not be your cup of tea.

Thanks for your candid review.

I just finished smoking one of these about an hour ago...

My experience was a bit different...

Mine had been sitting in a desktop humidor for about a month... I got it from a friend who isn't a smoker that had gotten it in a sampler pack a few weeks prior as a gift... So it hadn't been sitting up very long at all...

Construction on my stick was very good... No cracks or tears, easy draw, well packed, etc.. And held a very good ash (over an inch)... Which was very light grey in color... Burned nice and even as well...

One thing I noticed was that it produced a high volume of smoke... Not LP #9 volumes... But more than most other sticks I smoke...

Medium bodied... With hints of spice... I didn't get any coffee from it at all...

I didn't think it was the best smoke I've ever had... But I'd give it a solid 3 on a 1-5 scale... Considering it's price point I don't think that's all that bad...

I've never seen these in a B&M... And I just did a quick web search... The only place I saw them offered was Thompsons... So I'm wondering if the plantation blend are some sort of proprietary thing for them...

But I'd smoke another one if given the opportunity... I didn't find it to be a bad experience at all...

Been a fan of some of the better cigars from AB...my experience with their line is that they need a good nap and I suspect that it's because they rush out their new lines too soon to keep up with the market. Cigar markets are very competitive so bringing out something new keeps their name in 'lights' and unless that tobacco has already been aged before bringing it out they end up losing more business than they make. I have not tried this one yet...not sure if I will as I keep reading where these show up and Thompsons and others are like them are like the "Cigar Outlets" of the marketplace..if they don't sell big they are downgraded and shuffled off to the lower end establishments to sell.
