Size: 5 x 46
Wrapper: Ecuadorian Connecticut
Binder: Dominican Republic
Filler: Dominican Republic
Body: Medium
Strength: Mild
Smoke Time: 45 Minutes
MSRP: $12.50
The Alpha Absinthe Infused Limited Edition Corona features a nice Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper with very minimal veins. The pack is somewhat squishy, but the seams are tight and the cap is solid. The smell off the wrapper leaf is very mild. It takes a good deal of sniffing and concentration to pick up the aroma of pine wood and hay.
The dry draw has a pine wood flavor and has just the right amount of resistance.
First Third
The first light gives me a bitter citrus rind flavor and dry wood. The retrohale is pretty stout. There is a alcohol type bite that is left on the middle of my tongue and the back of my throat. If I didn’t know any better I wouldn’t be able to tell that this is an infused cigar. The flavors tast very natural and not at all artificial. There is no residual infused taste on the tongue.
A ½” in rewards me with a nice creamy texture to the smoke. The bitterness dies down and a coffee flavor comes in. There is still a hint of the citrus in the back ground. The cigar is a very fast burning stick, as I have gotten all these flavors in the first 10 minutes.
Second Third
Second third ramps up the cream. I now get a good deal of anise. The pine wood is still present as is the alcohol burn on the back of my throat. The body is medium and the strength is mild. The burn is razor sharp.
Final Third
The final third coffee dominates. The cream remains, and the burn on the back of my throat has left. The smoke stayed very cool and flavorful.
Final Thoughts
This was an extremely tasty cigar. The infusion was done very well, and does not compare with a majority of infused cigars out there. This is the only absinthe infused cigar on the market. I have never tried absinthe before, but I wager it would pair well with this. The burn was razor sharp the whole way through and I had plenty of smoke output. Overall I really enjoyed this cigar. It was a nice, quick 45 minute smoke. Great for when you have limited time to smoke.
Thank you very much to Alpha Cigar Company for generously sending these in for review!
