  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Anyone here enjoy a good Porter

Let me say that I tried a few Porters when I first turned 21 and didn't like them at all. They were thick heavy porters that tasted like used motor oil. But recently I've been trying some darker beers. One of the beers at the cigar lounge that I really enjoyed was a Russian Porter brewed by Baltika. Has anyone else here tried it? It has good clean dark beer flavor without the motor oil flavor or thickness to it. So this beer has me curious about what other Porters that are out there that I should consider trying?

Thanks and I look forward to your replies.

What's up brother?

Yes, I usually get that Baltika when I'm at SJ's, that is a really good Porter that is on the lighter side. I can't be of much help in suggesting others as I don't buy Porters to bring home, but I do try some Porters when I am out on occasion and enjoy them. I usually stick to the local brews and really like the Deschutes Porter, Boundary Bay out of Bellingham among others. I don't get them often enough to describe them... all I know is that I like them!

Hey Ryan

Thanks for the reply. It's always nice to know you have good tastes, wether it's cigars or libations:)

We need to get togather along with some of the other Puget Sound BOTL's and have a meet up at Smokey Joe's soon.

I love a good porter (stout as well). Up in my neck of the woods we have a nice Raspberry Porter by Tree Brewing, I've had a good one in Portland called Tree Hugger by Laurelwood Brewery, Rogue has a nice Mocha Porter....had an amazing dark beer (not actually a porter but similar) in Ellensburg, WA called Irish Death-not sure where it's actually brewed but would love to find it. Hope that gives you some inspiration

Try some English porters they're usually not too thick and motor oil like.

I just had a local "scrath" beer (experimental brews) from Troegs called Coacoabunga. It was a chocolate vanilla porter. It was thick but not too much. Did not have an overpowering chocolate taste either.

In my earlier days I never enjoyed dark beers that much. However now I am all about them. A good dark beer is so nice. We have a few micro brews around here that I drink often.

Fullers London Porter is my favorite. Nice smooth chocolate flavor.

I also make a pretty damn good Oak Bourbon Porter (made with Makers Mark), if I dont say so myself :D

I've had the Baltika... very tasty porter. Bassman... I thought I was the only one who knew about Zywiec! That stuff will knock you on your butt.

Never tried Baltika. I love the Highwater Porter from the Skagit River Brewery. Boundary Bay puts out some good brews and a great porter. It is right up the street so we head up there for lunch once in awhile.

ETA: Both of the above have really great food, too, but no smoking. . .:hanghead:

I love Deschutes Black Butte, which I believe you should be able to find. Rogue Mocha Porter is pretty damn tasty too.
I drank some Deshutes Black Butte the other day. It was some good stuff.

Thanks to all for your recomendations:thumbsup: I look forward to giving them a try.
