Arturo Fuente Xtra Viejo Anejo #46 5&5/8 x 46
Very Dark Brown wrapper; toothy and firm. Pre-light aroma is chocolate and hay.
First Third (4:45 PM) Lots of smoke, though thin and wispy. Easy draw with just a touch of resistance. Musty tobacco core, super smooth. No spice, whatsoever. Sweet, caramel earth. Very smooth. Medium to med-full body. Earth keeps building as I make my way through the cigar. Nuances of cream on the draw. Beautiful cigar so far. Keep getting hints of toffee. I got up to grab my ipad and I got a long finish flavor of hickory. Now I want BBQ...
Second Third (5:10 PM) Pepper flavor, not any tingle, is really coming forward. Still has loads of smoke, touch of sweetness, and no nic-kick yet. It's an AF, so I expect a good buzz by the end of this review. Now I'm getting a wood every once in a while, almost like an oak. Pepper picking up, now I'm getting a zing. Sweetness is still there and now chocolate; very complex.
Last Third (5:40) Nicotine has ramped way up. I am sitting in my garage waiting on pizza to arrive, so its worse than it usually is. I have a buzz and have light headedness. Not horrible. Maybe med-full strength. Still lots of smoke pouring from the foot. Not much has changed, really, since the first light. Lots of flavors, but no transitions. I do like the pepper to balance the sweetness. The first 5 minutes felt like I was smoking a sugar cane.
Paired with Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock. Usually drink water, but this has been a shit month. Toffee from the beer play nicely with the flavors from the Anejo.
Personal Rating: 86
Explanation: So if this wasn't so consistent throughout the entire cigar, I would have rated it a lot higher. That being said, the flavors, smoke produced, balance, and experience were good. I just longed for a little variety. Also, an 87 is high in my books. 95 would be my ideal cigar, which I have not reviewed, yet.
