Arturo Fuente Anejo #55

I am not usually an avid Arturo Fuente smoker except for the occasional Short Story. I am not sure why, but they are just not picked up when I make my usual rounds through the humidor. Last month one of the two guys that run the humidor at The Party Source suggested I try one so I picked it up and stuck it away in my humidor for the past month. Tonight I finally pulled it out. The Arturo Fuente Anejo uses the same binder and filler blend used in the Fuente Fuente Opus X with a Connecticut broad leaf maduro wrapper, aged in Cognac barrels.

The construction was excellent the cigar felt heavier than it looked and a nice plume had developed on the cigar underneath the cedar wrapper. After cutting it and finding the draw acceptable I lit it up. Clouds of pleasing smoked rose up from the cigar and I sat back to find out why so many people enjoy this cigar.

It started out with a sweet molasses flavor as another review commented about with hints of other spices and a bit of a pepper like bite to it. I could definitely taste the hints of cognac. The cigar was not rough in the least bit and continued to smoke well. In the last third of the cigar the flavors changed, I noticed that the sweetness was gone and the pepper flavor had gotten bolder, but not completely overpowering the other flavors.

The Arturo Fuente Anejo #55 smoked well right until the end as it started to burn my fingers. It had a wonderful complex flavor that was very pleasing to the palate. I was also happy with how well the cigar was made and not having any issues with the draw or the wrapper. I give this cigar and 8 out of 10; it is probably one of the better cigars in this price range.
