  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Burned the crap out of my mouth on a bratwurst earlier this week and while I've been wanting a cigar, I've been hesitant to smoke one. Finally broke down and partook this afternoon. I chose a cigar I've smoked plenty of so I could tell if my palate was off or not and since I haven't done a review on this cigar before, now seems a good a time as any. The cigar I chose was the Arturo Fuente Hemingway Short Story.

I've always considered this a nice looking cigar. Measuring 4 x 48 it's slightly diminutive, but sometimes you don't have the time for a bigger smoke. Dominican filler and binder draped in a glossy brown Cameroon wrapper. There are a few dull areas on the wrapper of this particular cigar, not sure what that's about. Not a whole lot of aroma from the cigar, a little cedar and tobacco.

The cap cuts cleanly. The draw is tight, as is to be expected with a perfecto shape. There are subtle flavors of spice underlying a tobacco core. Toasted the nipple (insert inappropriate comment here ) and away we go...

Initially the draw is tight, thus the cigar isn't putting out much smoke. The flavors are faint and mostly a particular tobacco flavor. I've never really been able to describe it. I used to think it was the flavor of Dominican tobacco, but having now tried other Dominican cigars I find that it is specific to Fuentes.

I have never found the burn to be particularly even on cigars with the perfecto shape, not that I mind as I'm not a burn Nazi. Once the burn line rounds the bulb at the foot though, they tend to sharpen up. Also now that the burn is a little ways through the bulb, the draw is opening up and smoke output is increasing. And I'm starting to pick up some cedar with a hint of sweetness on the finish.

Ash a light gray and holding strong. Flavors remain consistent, burn has nothing to complain about.

As I get around the half way point, I had to start being careful with how I puffed. Drawing too hard or long tends to heat up the cigar, this stick really rewards a light touch. The draw is effortless though so this makes it easy. Did develop a crack in the wrapper, but smoked through it without any problems.

Overall a nice little cigar snack and still a favorite. Nice to know my taste buds still work . Thanks to Drew (WkndSmoker) for refreshing my humidor with a few of these little babies .
