  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The past week has been busy and stressful so I was looking forward to sitting on the deck and smoking a cigar last night. Decided it would be a great time for a review. I chose the Ashton Aged Maduro #10 which is a 5x50 stick, retails for around $8.00 (a thanks to TatGuy for bombing me with it ). It has an aged Connecticut wrapper, dark chocolate brown in color. A few small veins, nice slightly oily sheen to it. I got nothing much from the pre-light smell, slightly sweet aged tobacco.

Clipped the cap, draw was perfect. The pre-light flavors were a mild, sweet tobacco with some flavor that I can only describe as mint with the intensity drained out of it. Had some trouble lighting it with my Bic (really need to get that butane insert for my Zippo) due to a slight breeze, but I managed to get it going after some effort.

Getting into the first third the flavors are mostly of a slightly sweet tobacco, coffee beans on the retro-hale, short finish with a slight spice I can't place. The ash was a medium gray and started off flaky.

I started off pairing this cigar with a Plowboy Porter, made by Crown Brewing Company in St Genevieve Missouri, but quickly switched to water as the cigar didn't seem to pair well. The smoke output was generous, which I like. There was a dry earthiness left on my lips after drawing on the cigar. Going into the second third I began to get a nuttiness, almonds I think, that was very nice. The ash continued to be flaky, but held strong. It dropped off about half way and then again towards the nub.

Overall I enjoyed this cigar. Definitely would smoke it again, not sure that it'd really become a regular in the rotation though. Hope everyone enjoyed the review, I hope to be able to do more in the future. Would be interested to hear other opinions on this cigar as well.

Very "spot-on" review Dan, great pic's too!

Great "milder" maduro, good change of pace cigar.
