Ashtray question

I'm almost afraid to ask because the last time I asked for input I got targeted! Last thing I need is a spitload of ashtrays. Since the weather is warming in the NE I'm gonna need something better than a coffee mug to use.

Cigar ashtrays. What's the deal with the the long part of the ash tray that the cigar rests on (does it even have a name?). I would think that it would cause uneven burning. Can't I just use a "normal" ashtray that keeps the ash suspended?

I like the long slots as they hold the cigar securely so it doesnt roll or fall off. My favs are the stinky, casa fuente and my aroma de cuba three cigar ashtray.

I've got 6 of the original "Stinky" ashtrays, also got six of his original "cigar" ashtrays stands.

They're placed by every chair (2) and one on each side of the couch (2) in my living room.
