Ask A Somm: What Cigar Goes With Wine

I am less than a novice when it comes to wine. I just like what I like. However, I would hate to ruin a good cigar by pairing it with the wrong wine. I came across this and wanted to share.

I've seen and read that port wines pair nicely with cigars. I just need a day when I can sit with the bottle and a few cigars to try it out.

I'm no sommelier by any stretch, but how does this guy NOT mention Port?! It's FANTASTIC with any stick. Mildly annoyed here... (still, thanks for the post CeeGar! )

I'm no where near being a wine coniuesser (however the stupid word is spelt) but I'd think port and red wines would pair well with most cigars.

Wine and cigars are just fine for me. Wine and anything, really.

I'm a big fan of Petite Syrah's with a stick that has some pepper and sweetness on it. You get this really nice complimentary flavor profile where the wine and cigar each bring out aspects you might have otherwise missed.

Most important is to match the body of the wine to that of the cigar. Big bold red? Go with a cigar with enough flavor to stand out. Lighter Zin or Barbera, consider a medium bodied stick with more complexity.
