Tonight I wanted to review something out of my comfort zone. A Avo cigar. One that to be honest with you does not fit my flavor profile very well. That musty, hay is not really my lingo. Sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort zone.
Start time 7:15pm
Cigar: Avo Xo Maestoso (7.0" x 48)
Drink: water
Temp: 67 sunsetting and dropping.
Music: Pandora radio Zac Brown band
Finsh Time: 9:00pm
Right away taking this cigar out of its cello I notice on thing. This is probably the most velvety cigar wrapper I've ever felt! Running my fingers thru the length of the cigar I feel no soft spots. Perfect construction from the davidoff factory as always. Great looking cap as well. Cut once again with my palio I give this cigar a cold draw. The draw is near perfect as well. The cold taste of almost CC like bready sweetness with earth and barnyard. No spice and the cigar seems mild already before ever being lit.
Time to light er up!
1st inch:
This cigar took flame almost immediately. Not only do I think it doesn't have much ligero in the filler, it has probably 2 years of age on it as well. First few draws not much in smoke and taste. First inch is starting to develop some nuttiness with better smoke production. Also a slight bight but I wouldn't place it at bitter. Right at the inch mark a very soft ash fell in my lap. :cursing: Perfect burn, flavors of nuts and and a nice creaminess. Am I really liking this Avo so far?????????
1st 3rd:
Slight pinch of leather has crept in. Very slight at that. Still nutty and creamy with a slightly toasted bread taste. Still a perfect burning cigar. Very easy retro hale but it doesn't give up any more flavors then just a regular draw. No mustiness yey!
2nd 3rd:
Still burning perfectly. One draw a minute or so produces ample amounts of smoke. Retrohale is perfect for someone just starting to learn how imo. Not much change from the 1st 3rd. Nutty... nutty... nutty with a slight sweetness to it. Creamy has faded into more of a med body cigar with a very small amount of leather. Tons of smoke, very slight leather continues and also a very small amount of cocoa sweetness. Can't say it enough one of the most perfect burns I've ever seen.
Final 3rd:
Not very much change and thats ok! I'm really enjoying this cigar. Not heavy or full bodied. But great flavors and a very well balanced cigar. Perfect combustion and holds a ash for a inch then drops. Not one relight, every puff and that wrapper ignites perfectly along with the binder and filler. Notes of chocolate sweetness, (bitter chocolate) faint leather are present now. No spice and no creaminess now either.
Final notes:
Hey a Kelner cigar with out much straw and mustiness to it! I really enjoyed this cigar. Med bodied thru out. Velvety wrapper in the hand. Great construction. Not one touch up. A perfect cigar for a newer guy to not only try but to retrohale as well! Great rounded flavors and well balanced. What else can you ask for? At 1:45 mins I think I'll smoke these again when I want something flavorful but not full bodied. DID I MENTION A PERFECT BURN!
