  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Just came back from San Diego this summer. Visited a few in Orange County too. Although I didnt get to see all the places in San Diego, I would recommend Excalibur as a place to get a cigar, sit in a nice leather chair, watch the game and have a drink. They even have stone and lost abbey on tap! Liberty tobacco is right down the street from Excalibur and has a little better prices. They also have another store in the Del Mar area that you can hang out and have a smoke. However, I dont mind paying a little extra at Excalibur cause I can drink, watch the game, etc. In old town, there is Racine and Laramie and they have pretty good prices and lots of hard to find and LE type stuff.

Oddly enough Cali cigar tax is lower than Hawaii's cigar tax. However, with the exception of Liberty and Racine and Laramie the Cali stores had either the same or even higher prices than here in Hawaii.

Thanks Guys!

Fia- I actually knew about the Liberty (I think on Clairemont Mesa?)...didnt even know there was another shop on the same street. Will definately try and stop by the R&L in Old Town also.

Marty- Thanks for the Emerson's, haven't been to Norfolk in about 10 years.

jwintosh and Bob- I'm actually gonna be in SD only for basically a day (arrive next Wed evening and depart Fri AM). Staying at Residence Inn La Jolla and fingers crossed I'll be able to squeeze out a couple hrs of free time so was searching for any B&M's to hit since we don't have all that many here in HI.

Cigar Grotto in Oceanside if you make it that way or Dana Point Cigars. the greatest cigar and wine collection in the area.

If you head due-east on La Jolla Village Dr it turns into Mira Mar Rd, and there is a "new" B&M lounge called Churchill's near the Air Station. It is related to the Churchill's in Old Town. I say "new" because this space used to be another Excalibur, but they sold it over to the Churchill's guys who have done some minor remodeling.

Thanks Tony. I fly into Carlsbad this time so Oceanside is doable straight from the airport.
The guys at Cigar Grotto are cool people. Make sure to hit the fish n chips place in the oside harbor for grinds. They have bambucha size fish tacos!

Post up when you are going to Norfolk and we'll get guys together for a smoke.
Yea give us a heads up, I try to meet up with anyone who comes into town, provided I'm off work...
Thanks Sean, I lived in SD for 4 years way back so I can find my way to Churchills thanks to your directions.
