  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Bad day on the course...

Since it was in the 60's here I decided to meet up with some friends and play some golf. My buddy called me and said they had 6 people all ready and they had a couple of open spots, so count me in.

I arrive a few minutes early and then there became a big discussion about an extra group, turns out another guy had two more coming so now we had 9 people. But we were early enough to get the extra group out with no problems. Now on to the round.

First tee shot slices in to the next fairway but I had a shot and got on the green then 3 putted... I then 3 putted the next 4 holes, ugghh. On the 7th hole, a par three, the tee box for the next hole is directly left of the green. I pull my tee shot and it ends up about 30-40 yards from the group on the tee, never threatening to hit anyone. My buddy pulls his tee shot worse than mine and it flies over the heads of the group waiting on the next tee, and of course he didn't yell fore. I was the first to pull up and when I got there the guy starts going off on me about the ball coming his way. I was apologetic even though it wasn't my ball, but he kept on and we had some words. Luckily they quit after nine so they weren't in front of us after that.

On the tenth hole I hit my approach to 4 feet, then 3 putted. On the twelth hole I hit two shots OB and took an 8. After that I settled down and played okay, but on 18 my buddy hit a bad shot and proceeded to blame me because I was up in front of him off to the left and discracted him so he hit a bad shot. Not a good end to the round.

Oh yeah...Did I mention I left my cigars for the round at the house???

I used to get real competitve with friends on the course. IMO, that ended up making the game no longer fun. I would get mad at them and mad at myself. I found that I shoot better when I just go out there and have fun. If I have a bad score, I really don't care. I just chalk it up to "better than working" category!

Know the feeling, I am competitve with myself on the course and really let it get the best of me yesterday, and it wasn't fun for me at all. I can think of a dozen things that lead to my mental collapse yesterday, but it is just a game and should be treated that way. All though I really did want to wrap my 5 iron around the neck of that jackass, I understand his frustration, but it wasn't my ball that came close to hitting him and there was no need for him to be cursing at me....

I miss golf... Golf for me was always about my buds and a few cigars and several cold ones. Never once have we actually kept score, not icluding minigolf, at putt putt we are furiously competetive! Im talking blocking shots, hiding balls, the whole nine yards lol. My wife had no idea when she tagged along for one of our infamous nights of jungle putt:assaultri

Sounds almost like my last time out. Lots of fairways and greens, but could not putt worth a damn.

1. If you even imagine that is or will be your worst day in the park, get over it-if it was easy we'd all be on TV. It's golf.:scratchhe

2.The guy that was pissed because you were in front of him, tell him to pack sand. He's just using you for a whipping post. You didn't pull the trigger on that shot he did. If he was observant enough to see you and know that it bothered him-he should have asked you to move.

It's all good, your cardinal sin was forgetting your smokes............:frownno:

You're right about the smokes... The rest of it is trivial, just a day on the links. It is just an observation on how mentally taxing the game can be.

Ouch! All in all it doesn't sound like a bad day, more like a terrible day! Sorry to hear about the round, but we all have those. It's the others that keep us coming back. Hey, at least you got to golf, we still have 3 feet of snow on the ground.
