Bad drill job?

Got this new Peterson Jekyll and Hyde and looks like when they drilled the draft hole they dug into the bottom of the bowl... Is this something I should be worried about and get a refund? I can imagine tobacco getting stuck down in the cavity and it would probably be more prone to burn out in that area....

Maybe it helps air flow below, and is deliberate.
Second guess is that Jeckyl did the carving and Hyde did the drilling. ..

I'm becoming weary of Peterson's ability to drill a proper draft hole in a bent stem pipe.

Most peterson pipes have that type of drilling. I wouldn't worry about it, but the only way to find out is light up a bowl and see for yourself.

Never had issue with straight stems, only the bent shanks

That drilling is OK to me. It's when it an 1/8", or more, above the bottom of the bowl that annoys me.

To be honest I have often come across it and I wouldn’t be too concerned about it. It would only be a problem if it is too deep, which doesn’t look like it is. It would most likely fill up when the pipe starts to get caked and it shouldn’t affect the smoke in any way

Maybe i'll just list it up on ebay if it isn't a problem, annoys shit outa me though.

I would just think of it as a moisture trap...yeah, that's it, a moisture trap!

Well, it's not perfect, but compared to one I had to send back, not bad at all .

Buying Peterson pipes blind off the internet is like buying $100 scratch tickets. It's fine if you enjoy the gamble. As for that pipe pack it, light it, smoke it. If it smokes well keep it, if it doesn't sell it. That's the only way to really know how any pipe will perform.

I would not consider that a problem. it'll also fill in as the pipe is smoked with cake. smoke it and don't worry at all.
