Brand: Bahia
Name: E652
Size: 6.5 x 52
Wrapper/Filler: Corojo wrapper / Nicaraguan filler
Shape: Torpedo
First impression: The wrapper is a medium to dark brown, mildly oily with some small veins. It feels firm but not hard and when a bit more pressure is applied I can feel it give just a touch. I like the simple electric blue with silver script band.
The taste before cutting is a little tart but not too strong.
The cut was smooth and clean with no tobacco leaf cracks or dry ends.
The aroma is a nice tobacco leaf, cedar with little else that my nose is picking up right now.
Cut: Straight cut
First draw: The draw is easy with light hints of sweetness and leather and a even slighter dark chocolate undertone. I did have to take a long deep dry draw to get that.
First 3rd: this stick feels got between the fingers, it burns well with only a slight wave to the burn line. The draw has developed a very timid sweetness with a hearty after note. As the smoke linger on the pallet it gives off a hint of creamy, leathery followed by a little spice (cinnamon is what I'm getting).
The ash got to about 1 inch then dropped with no warning.
The draw is still easy to medium easy and so far a very pleasant and fulfilling smoke even when you are not trying to dissect the flavors.
The smoke is good from this stick on the draw and a medium low at rest with a nice blue/white plume the becomes less noticeable after just a few seconds.
Second 3rd: The second third is still smoking well. Very consistent burn through this stik so far, smoke and draw are unchanged.
The flavor has transitioned from a sweet to a more cinnamon spiciness with hearty earthy leather. It almost feel like your taking a bite of this vs. smoking it. It's becoming a filling smoke and very pleasant at that.
I can feel the heat building a bit but not in an unpleasant way.
I did forget to mention earlier...the smoke from this is pleasant on the nose. This is the kind of cigar you cold smoke and people would appreciate it vs. snub their noses at it.
Final 3rd: I lost the fight for fire at the start of the final third. I must have let it sit a bit too long. I took a few puffs to try and keep it lit, thought I had it then lost it. The end was not a cratered hot spot though. When I broke away the ash that was there it was domed out a bit and still hard. A second or two of triple flame torch and she was glowing red again.
The prevalent cinnamon is gone and now it's has more smoky, spiciness to it. With a shallower draws has a creamy leather with a slight cinnamon undertone.
In this final third shallower draws are more pleasant than trying to get a mouthful.
There is no sign of that heavy tar yet and I'm now down to the last couple inches if that.
I'm ending this with about an inch to go. Still smokable but I have things to do with the wife so I gotta keep her happy and end just a bit sooner that could.
How long did it take to smoke: 5:00 - 6:40 (100 minutes)
Did you have to re-light and how often: Once, at the start of the first third.
What were you drinking with it: Hoegaarden Weissbeir
Recommend: Yes, absoloutly! At 29-39 for a bundle of 20 this is the kind of cigar you could smoke daily, maybe even twice daily.
For the record, I had a similar experience with my first Blu Blu (Toro). Took that down to a nub.
