  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Brand: Bahia
Name: Trinidad
Size: 6.5 x 54
Type: Criollo wrapper
Shape: Belicoso (#2) aka "Torpedo"

First impression/dry draw: A nice sized torpedo shaped cigar. The wrapper looks on the drier side (not as shiny as the Bahia Blu I smoke), a little lighter also. This allows any imperfections or veins to show but no complaints really.
The foot and wrapper are most definatly on teh earthy farm side. Slight hints of manure that quickly change to dirt after being plowed (Ive driven by farms that are plowing feilds and this aroma is very distinct.
First taste on the lips and pallet are bland and a bit bitter (like bitter salad greens).
The dry draw is medium and giving a leathery, earthy taste on the back of the tounge.

Cut: Straight cut (clean and easy, a sign of a fresh cigar and dispelling any idea that teh dry looking wrapper is the sign of a dry cigar).

First 3rd: The light was fine, evening and burning decent. The smoke is good and tends to continue even at rest. The aroma from the smoke is neither offensive nor appealing. I'm struggling to taste anything other than a hint of pepper at the back of the throat. I'm getting next to nothing on the pallet and this is consistent with short or long draw, quick or delayed release of smoke from the mouth. There is something there and either I can not identify it or its so light that it's meant to be hidden.
I have to say, the burn on this is excellent! It's even , it's clean its a pleasure to see a cigar burn like this. The ash is like its blu brother, dirty grey, looks tight but shows signs of cracking and will fall off if not ashed about every inch or so.
As I near the end of the first third the flavor, or lack of, is still bugging me. At the transition from1st to 2nd thirds I'm picking up that bitter salad with hints of something along the lines of citrus skin. My beverage of choice had not dis colored the taste of a smoke yet but this one may be so light that it any be the citrus in the Hoegarrden that I'm picking up.

Second 3rd: I've had some premium smokes that don't burn this good. I won't call,it razor sharp but I am still smoking this because of the burn. It's like the little cigar that could. It's putting forth an effort and I can not dismiss that. I'm really hoping for some flavor soon that is not bitter salad. At least that flavor isn't intense.
Smoke is still excellent and the resting smoke has toned down to a minimal smoke trail if the breeze wasn't present it would be the perfect cigar smoke trail.
As I sit here, puff, taste, puff taste,I'm thinking that maybe this might be a good cigar after a heavy flavorful meal. The kind of meal where you don't want to stop tasting it. M imagining a steak with bernais sauce, garlic mashed and flavorful asparagus. A nice red (a cab would be perfect) to accompany this smoke. It's mild and easy to smoke, womt discolor your food/drink and is visually appealing.
At some point the pepper at the back of the throat have dissapeared.
The flavors are now heading toward a burnt paper and the aromas are still insignificant. Since I've had neither a big meal nor do I need this cigar break I am ending this just short of halfway through this stick. I've read other reviews of this cigar and all mention flavors I am not picking up. I'm starting to think I got a bag stick. Maybe it wasn't stored properly. I'll order another one from a different vendor and re-review this another time.
How long did it take to smoke: 4:20-4:55 (35 min)

Did you have to re-light and how often: not at all and no signs of needing to anytime soon.

What were you drinking with it: Hoegarrden

Recommend: Not at this time based on the bland bitterness and lack of any other significant flavor. Though the burn was excellent this stick was a let down. I'd reach for a Bahia Blu before this stick right now.
