  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So yesterday I'm out in my garage, cleaning my Glocks after a full day at the range, when my neighbor wanders up. After a few minutes of gun talk, he invites me over to his shop for a Baltika... I'd never heard or had one of those, so I graciously accepted his invitation!

This was a great beer! The bottle had very presentable feel and labeling, with a cocky pull cap. It was light and very smooth. I couldn't really compare it to anything domestic beers I've had. Apparently, this is a very popular label in Russia, and instead of coming up with names for their new blends, they just add another number... I'm not a beer connoisseur by any means, and I know very little about imports, but I'll be gettin myself a few of these brews. I'll have to figure out which cigar goes best with #7! Probably a lighter, natural smoke.

Ah yes I drank many a Baltika when I was travelling through Russia back in 05. Good beer. I can never remember which number I just loved though.

One of my standards at the local B&M is the Baltika Porter... I think's it's the #6 but not positive. It's a great Porter but I haven't tried the others...

Used to drink a lot of Zhigouly Strong Beer from Lithuania. Sadly, when they changed the label, they also changed the brewery & it taste completely different now- and not for the better. These's a sizable Russian population in my area & plenty of ex Soviet beers are carried. Lately I've been enjoying Zywiec Porter from Poland. Tasty, strong & reasonably priced.
