  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

The inevitable finally happened, I had my first encounter with beetles. I got a new box of Partagas Super Partagas in yesterday and fortunately put it into a separate quarantine cooler to see if beetles or signs of beetles show up. I always do this before introducing them to the rest of my stash in the winos.

So today I popped open the box to inspect them and saw a tiny little bug moving around. I can't even make out any features of the bug it's so small, literally a pin sized bug. I tried to get a picture of it but that proved difficult, it is the tiny light spec in this pic

I did a little more searching and found where he tunneled out of the foot

And to think, I thought about just sticking these in the wino without quarantining them yesterday since "I haven't had any issues from this vendor and cc are frozen before they ship. Thankfully I erred on the side of caution!

What temperature do you store them? It was my impressions that you need to be 73-75F just to get in the range for beetle growth. Other places say above 80.

About 70 in the cooler, but it's been I transit so I have no idea what temperatures it was exposed to

Did you call the shop? What did they say about them?

I haven't emailed them. Thought I'd get the opinions from the brothers here and decide how to proceed. I think I ought to freeze them just to be safe

I've never had any (knock on wood) so I'd be interested in hearing how it works out in case I do.

Have you checked it properly from where the beetles are coming? While it can be difficult to keep insects like beetles completely out of your home because they are so small, One can take help of some professionals like Exterminator Wallingford CT, West Haven CT, Westport CT, Branford CT, Cheshire CT, etc which one can easily find online or can also try some pest prevention measures to minimize their activity indoors. The first step is to keep your home clean. Vacuum frequently, especially in corners and under furniture, to remove any accumulations of lint and pet hair. Regularly clean draperies, linens, rugs, and carpets. Promptly clean any food spills from furniture, rugs, and carpets. Make sure all open food containers are sealed tightly after use. Trim back any flowering plants near window or door openings to prevent adults from sneaking into your home.
Don’t think this applies in this particular situation!!!:)

I've seen 'holes' in the foot of cigars that turned out to be just weird leaf foldover. Or stem viods from the cut process. Where again, is the hole in the wrap? That's the smoking gun.
I can't see that, or the beetle, in the picture.

If the cigars have no holes in the wrap and you're worried, just freeze them a few days. Beetle damage is usually pretty darn obvios.

maybe so.. I guess "Charles Foster" may fulfill a purpose after all.... ;)

Actually, his name reminds me, I really want a Forster Co-Ax press... Man those things look nice.. ;)
To me, the idea of reloading is like the idea of rolling my own sticks - an admirable pursuit that sounds like it would be satisfying, but that I know I would never actually do bc I would never find the time for it. Like my gym membership or my motorcycle insurance - I like having them and being able to exercise or ride, but it's not very often that I actually do either...

That's pretty accurate. I haven't loaded anything up in close to a year, but haven't shot hardly at all in that time either.
It's honestly not for most people. It does not save money unless you're loading odd and expensive rounds. The value comes from the fulfillment of doing it, increased accuracy and being able to provide your own ammo when it's scarce.
