  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Xikar Xi cutters and cheap torch lighters is the way to go.

I have a Palio and its a nice cuter but still not as smooth as a proper working Xikar Xi.

Palio blades are too thin. A stem will nick the blade, which sill then catch on itself, rendering it useless. Had it happen twice. Know a lot of other folks who have had it happen multiple times as well.

Love my Xikar Xi3's, and my ZX Ultra Slim. Use the former at home and the latter I keep I my Herfador at one end.

DuPont jet

Neither is cheap or really expensive but you gave no budget.
One of the few times I agree with the Rev. Palio cutters are the best imho. I've had the first one I ever purchased for over 7 years and it cuts as well as the first day I used it. It's been through the wash, dropped in the mud and cleans up easy. As for my favorite lighter, the Dupont Xtend is the best lighter for me out there. Lights everytime and easy to maintain. But, they aren't cheap.

Palio cutter IMO - Way smoother/sharper than ever Xikar I've ever owned. Lighters they're all crap lol
I have a Palio that I love abs also have a couple Xikars that I've been very happy with.

The lighters are all crap. For my money the best is the Ronson Jet light. Works as well as the xikars and others I've owned except that they cost about $4. When they break I throw them away.

+1. I have a Palio and love that thing. The lighter I use is the Xikar Allume. I got it free from SB.
The Cuban Crafters Perfect Cut is a nice cutter too and they are inexpensive.

Two people have already said lighters are all crap.

I have had mini jets and max jets. Every one has lit up almost always on the first try. I prefer a soft flame unless I'm outside but if I'm outside, I have had no issues with the DuPonts.

For lighters: I own 3 vertigo torch lighters, a zippo with the torch insert (forgot the name of the insert) and my jetline soft flame for my pipe smoking. All reasonably priced IMHO. I also have a torch lighter from Christmas tree shops that cost me $2.00 and is a workhorse. Cutters I use ones I got for free from on-line cigar purchases. If I had to choose a brand, Xikar all the way. Their warranty and customer service is on point. Worth every penny with whatever you purchase from them.

Too many to name for me (y) But since you mentioned V-cut, Xikar is best IMO. Most others I find cut two large of a "V". Especially, the cheap V cutters.

Bic lighter and a single blade guillotine obviously. Never had issues with either.

(My vote actually goes for Xi3 and black label el presidente lighter)(I don't own a flat flame because of the price (100) but black label lighters are great.)

Palio cutter here. With cutters I honestly think that there is not a significant difference between the Xikar and that Palio and that it is just a matter of preference. Palio covered my cutter under warranty for something dumb that I did rather than something that was a defect though and the way they handled it made me very loyal.

With lighters I would probably own a DuPont if money were no object but I am just not able to justify dropping that much coin on a lighter. I own two lighters that I use consistantly. The first is a Thunderbird insert that I have inside one of my old zippo cases and the second is a Bugatti B-1. The Bugatti is a workhorse that performs near flawlessly and has become my go-to lighter over the past year. Also since it cost me $15 rather than $1500, "thrifty" Rupe is happy as well.

I'm glad you're having a different experience than me. I got a Bugatti B-2002 2-3 years ago and it was amazing for like 4 months - then it literally refused to work. They replaced it same thing. They replaced it again and same thing. After 4ish months of use they would just fail on me. Sputter and spark and never hold a flame. It's a shame too because I LOVE that lighter when it works.
