  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I got a mystery stick in a trade from brother EdMonton the other day...said he wouldn't tell me what it was until I smoked it and gave a review. Here are my notes I took while smoking, along with a few photos

initial - sweetgrass tea leaf hay scents, extremely well constructed, very full packing no soft spots, light wrapper, incredibly well capped. smoking conditions perfect, 65 degrees and sunny, no wind

first 1/3 - surprised at a bit of spice from initial puffs, beautiful white ash, medium amount of smoke, start picking up some caramel, razor sharp burn line, no touchups, start to notice slight crack in the wrapper, hope it doesn't get bigger, very pleasant taste on the pallet, mild>medium strength

second 1/3 - wrapper crack stayed same size, burn caught up to it and it's gone, ash holding strong 1-1/2", picking up in strength a little bit but not too much, amazing draw through the v-cut, smoke smells pleasant too (bigger deal for the wife than for me, but important nonetheless), coffee bean/nutmeg type flavours now, ash finally flaked off around 1-3/4", burn line a bit off but no correction needed yet - seems to be working itself out once ash came off. getting a cheesecake-crust type taste, some tobacco flavours too, slight nicotine headrush feeling, amount of smoke increases, perfect draw still, notice another small crack in the wrapper but nothing major, picking up strength now,

last 1/3 - burn seems to have again worked the crack out on it's own, not a single touchup needed at any point, now in the medium strength profile, more tobacco taste, caramel taste returns, still very pleasant on the pallet, great burn throughout, now getting some hay flavour, nutmeg again, surprisingly the tea leaf taste returns! last inch the spice picks up quite a bit, great finish to a great cigar

All in all, I'm very impressed by this cigar. Impeccable construction, razor sharp burn, didn't touch it once with the lighter once lit, pleasant aftertaste, not a lot of tar in the mouth, would definitely add this to the regular rotation. Super curious to find out what it is.
Total smoking time - 60mins

Rating - easily 93-94 points.

Thanks for the stick Scott, look forward to getting my hands on some more of em!

That was a Perdomo ESV 91 second from CI. The fact that it was a second might help explain the cracks? Dunno. Anyway, its a great smoke for the price.
