Size: Looks like 5x52
Appearance/construction: Pretty good looking cigar. The wrapper is medium/light brown in color with only really one visible vein. Smooth and dry to the touch. It looks like a single cap, although kind of sloppy on the particular cigar. Well packed stick all the way through, with only a little bit of rebound and no knots. If you look at the foot in the pic, this baby is packed with some serious consistency throughout. Looking forward to lighting up.
Aroma Pre-Light: Im picking up some earthy and cedar scents with a little spice and a sweet note, possibly cocoa. Not an overly fragrant cigar pre-light, yet a very complex scent. I like it a lot already.
Cold draw: Im getting the same flavors on the cold draw as in the aroma. Some earthy spice and a little cocoa with addition of cinnamon. Easy draw.
Light: I went with the V-cut and a torch on this baby. Toasted it and it lit up easy, letting loose a generous cloud of white smoke.
First impression: This is going to be a quick smoke. From the toast and light, Im already in ½ inch. The flavors are nice and light off the foot. Extremely easy retrohale. Im going to enjoy this smoke as probably the first mild to medium cigar Ive had an ages; a perfect way to start the night.
Aroma Post-Light: Mostly a light cedar and earth scent, again with that little note of cinnamon.
First Third: Ok, as I mentioned, the toast and light bought me a half inch already. Not much flavor change, right off the bat. Very mild, but with a generous smoke volume. Burn is even, but not much to this the flavor on this first third. Not that it isnt complex, its just not bold. There is still a bit of cinnamon left on the tip of my tongue, more grassy earthy flavors starting to protrude as I move into the second third. The ash is nice and white with some dark black creases and a wrapper that burns bright orange, but it doesnt hold on for very long before falling on my lap.
Second Third: Still a very light smoke, but it is starting to get creamier in the mouth-feel and the earthy grassy notes are pulling through strongly. Im experiencing that wonderful natural tobacco flavor you get when smoking a well-aged stogie. Im loving this smoke, but as expected this is smoking fast, its not just me. The burn is razor sharp, and the smoke smooth. This is probably humidor aged at least a year or so. As the heat activates the flavors locked away in the final third, I get the taste of butter with some nuttiness in the middle of tongue.
Final Third: Im still not feeling any heat. Butter and walnuts coming through tremendously, but the smoke and aroma are still holding tight to the grass and earth flavors on the exhale. Of course, still burning like a razor. The construction is holding up fantastically, although I have been much less aggressive with the chew as I usually am. There is a bit of cinnamon spice making an appearance again, along with some cedar. As fast as I can write, Im entering into nub status. The ash is actually holding tighter now than it did in the beginning of the stick. It seems the butter and nut flavors are holding on until the very end because they dont seem to be fading at all. Im beginning to burn my fingers and feeling a medium heat as I near the end. Time for some final notes.
Overall Impression/Final Notes: This smoke was so light and creamy with the grassy earthy flavors that I find familiar with the natural Connecticut wrappers. The only thing holding back from really convincing myself that this is a premium cigar is the construction on the cap. Still, the flavor profile, smoke, burn, consistency, and the fact that I nubbed this bitch harder than I have for any other cigar ever tells you something. This was an excellent smoke. I simply cannot point out any fault or shortfall with the flavor whatsoever. It is exactly as it appears, a nice flavorful and medium smoke throughout.
As an additional final note, a big thanks goes out to Jim for sponsoring this series of blind reviews. Great sticks, brother. I know this experience has opened my eyes to a full spread of smokes I would not have otherwise tried. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
