Blind Review: X-5
Smoke Time: 6:52am - 8:00am
Temp & rh: 79* & 59%
Stored at: 72* & 65%
Size: 4.5"x50
Construction & Appearance: Medium brown wrapper with a double cap that is very neatly applied. Cigar feels very densely packed, no soft spots and it has some weight to it. Construction looks really good. I thought it may have been an Illusione R but the wrapper is considerably lighter than all the R's I have.
Pre Light: Slight smell of hay. Draw seems perfect.
First 3rd: Seems to have a lot going on flavor wise, they are all very subtle and I'm having trouble picking out any distinct flavors. One thing I am getting is honey but there's no sweetness to it, more of the aroma. It's very nice. The draw is a little tight and the smoke output is very minimal. I was trying to do this review in thirds but here's where it all went wrong. This cigar just flat out got the better of me. There is a lot going on and my palate just isn't sophisticated enough to pick it up. I'm not picking up any of the usual suspects: spice, pepper, cedar, and espresso. It's a very good cigar. At this point I'm just throwing in the towel, I'm going to sit back and enjoy this cigar.
Final Thoughts: This cigar was good, really good! The draw was a little tight the whole way through but not unbearable. The burn did get a little jagged but I'm pretty sure that had to do with me trying to get every last bit of smoke this cigar could produce, and not the construction itself. I really hope this isn't a CC or some other HTF. I'd definitely put this cigar in my normal rotation. I don't really have a good guess as to what this is, maybe a Herrera Esteli....but the vitola doesn't match up to any normal production cigars.
Score: 93/100 would have been a 94 or 95 if the draw had been a little looser.
