  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

I received this cigar exactly two weeks ago. It has been resting in my coolidor, so time to try it out and add my review to the pile.

Cigar: Bombay Tobak MBombay Habano Blend
Vitola: Robusto (4.5 x 48)
Smoke Date: May 22, 2015, in my cigar lounge (aka garage)
Beverage: Water
Entertainment: Television (Three's Company, Barney Miller)
Wrapper: Ecuador
Binder: Ecuador
Filler: Nicaragua & Peru
Smoke time: 50 mins

From Bombay Tobak website:
For those seeking the embodiment of toasted almonds, smooth earthiness, and subtle sweetcream… This mediumbodied blend was created for you! This Habano blend is one that both Novices and Aficionados can embrace!

Overall appearance 17/20: The first thing I notice is that my cigar does not have the large decorative band that others have been getting. I did some checking and it looks like this vitola may not always come with the larger band. The cigar is medium-dark brown in color and appears to have the slightest red tint. It has a closed foot. The wrapper is oily and has a slight sheen. I can feel the oil on my fingertips after inspection. The wrapper is smooth, although there are plenty of veins visible. The cigar is firm with no soft spots. It appears to have a double cap. The cigar has a rich tobacco aroma with a slight hint of cocoa. I light my cigars before cutting, so there is no examination of the pre-light draw.

Light and Burn 13/15: The cigar lights very easily. For the most part, the burn is even and crisp, save for a moment about 1/3 in where it became somewhat crooked. This quickly corrected itself. No relights were required. The ash holds for about 1" and is light gray in color. While resting, there is not much smoke generation, however, there was a significant amount of full, white smoke generated on each draw throughout.

Construction 30/30: The draw is very good. Just enough resistance that you know it's there. The draw is consistent throughout. The wrapper never unravelled and the cut was clean with no jagged edges or unravelling. It doesn't get much better than this.

Flavor 31/35:
Initial Draw: Mildly spicy with cedar remaining on the tongue.
First Third: White pepper on the tongue during the draw with cedar and other flavors lingering. The retro presents sweet floral notes.
Second Third: The cedar has become charred oak. There is a sweet almond sensation on the retro.
Last Third: The spice is picking up considerably and lingers on the tongue. Retro has become spicy. The woody and sweet notes have left. The smoke became hot with about 1" left.

Conclusion 91/100: This was an enjoyable cigar. The complexity kept my attention, wondering what I would find in the next puff. This cigar presented some flavors I had trouble identifying. Definitely interesting. The thick, white smoke from each draw was impressive with a creamy mouth-feel.

Thanks to @mel-mbombay for the cigar!
