  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Perhaps one of the group sites at San Clemente State Beach.
That sounds good.

We like to camp in Joshua Tree in the spring or fall. It may be a little too late for spring, but could plan something in the fall. Plus they have group sites available too.

GREAT IDEA!!!!! and YES!!!!

State Beach in San Clem is a good site, but finding a site is going to be a bitch. those are almost a 1 year wait list. Unless you calllast minute and get a cancelation. But if we got a site then of course I would be there. I have a huge tent, that will sleep 7 easily, rated for 10, but i don't want to sleep that close to anyone.

As far a sites go, have anyof you ever been to Oniel Park. It is out towards the end of El Toro Road, and offers decent facilites and hiking/biking trails. It is an orange county park, so smoking is still allowed. They have good big sites and some group sites too. If we have enough people, we should just reserve 2 sites that area djacent to each other. The group sites seem like they are designed for 30-50 people. Also the convenience of civilization is but 3 miles away. We forgot mustard and ketchup, and I was back in 15 miutes from the store.

Never been there. how hard is it to get a site? That might be ideal. Our summer is looking pretty busy already with vacations around the 4th of July, middle of August and camping in June.

One place we like to go is the Sequoia National Monument (south of the park). A little more rustic, but less crowded and less rules. Quaking Aspen camp ground has group sites available from july on. 4 hour drive from OC, no limit to vehicles, $60 a night for a 25 person site, tent only.

Yeah 4 hours is too far for me this summer. San Clem and Oniel, both let me work one of the weekend nights and don't require a vehichle of ine to travel into the desert. AAA can always get me home from either of our local sites. Of course we don't have to plan this around me and my issues. If we get a site somewhere else I'll do my best, but can't say for sure.

Oneil looks to have good availability. We only need to find an acceptable weekend.

Tents!! Although we can find trailer/RV in Oneil too.

As if that would stop us. But seriously, who ever heard of no alcohol while camping? Are you sure this isn't only for the day use areas?

I don't know, Alcohol Consumption is prohibited. :crytears:
We were just there a couple weeks back and brought a bottle of vodka, and a case of beer and did not have an issue. RED CUPS Baby, as long as we are respectful of our neighbors, we won't have an issue. Most of the sites there are good for trailers and for tents. I am on the phone now trying to get a detailed map of the sites. From what we saw, the cites that are against Trbuco Creek are the best for this type of gathering. i.e. smoking and drinking.

update.

disclaimer: the rangers are not allowed to give suggestions as to which sites we should pick. That said sites 58-31 on the creek side are the best, per the ranger. We need to line up a weekend. I have found 2 good sites that are adjacent and near the restrooms, that are available for June 4-5 and June 11-12. Steve, you are already camping in June, are you still interested in doing it in June, or do we wait until Later on. I worry aboutit getting too damn hot to be comfortable. June Gloom will keep us cool enough..at least that's my thoughts on it.

I'm gone June 11-12 and probably not interested in camping two weeks in a row. Is May 21- 22 too soon? June 25-26 would work too. If it has to be June 4-5, I'd probably still do it, but doubt my wife would want to come along. (She may not want to hang out with us anyway).
