Podman Cigar Company
Well the first day is over. It was a long one but a good one. Caught my early morning flight out of Chicago to Miami. Met up in Miami with the Skipper, Keinreis, Darkman, Vegan702, Jerome's buddy Dmitri, DrewEstateCigar, and another cool dude from another forum. We flew down to Managua where Pedro met up with the Cigar Safari party bus. The bus was loaded with Liga, JdN, beer, water and soda. From there we were off to a restaurant called Buccanero that overlooks a beautiful volcanic lagoon. I had eaten there in February but it was night so I could behold the beauty of the view.
After a tasty lunch we loaded back up on the bus and went to see an active volcano. Another sight to behold that we agreed pictures wouldn't do justice. We also got our day's workout climbing 178 steps to a viewing station. This was again something different from my last trip. From there we loaded up for the ride to Esteli. It is a picturesque ride through the country. When we got to Esteli JD was there waiting for us.
Once at Drew Estates we got our room assignments and headed up to the clubhouse to relax before dinner. We had some lively conversation over a few drinks and more cigars. An hour or two into the evening Jorge Padron showed up with a bundle of 1926 #2 maduros for us to enjoy. He joined us for a wonderful Nicaraguan style dinner and then we talked after dinner for some time as we made plans for a Padron factory tour on Friday morning.
Jorge had to leave us so we retreated to the clubhouse for a nightcap. We had some great conversation on a number of levels about cigars and other topics. JD was a great host and we all seemed to have a wonderful time. Tomorrow a My Father and JdN factory tour is on tap. We have snapped a number of pictures that I am sure will get posted at some point when we get them organized. So far it is a great start to what will surely be a memorable trip.
