Review Number 7

The last review is finally here. I had this cigar on a Sunday morning with some nice Black Dog coffee, YUMMY!! I was looking forward to this cigar as it was the first one I had since the last review cigar. Looking it over I noticed it was not a very good looking cigar. The foot had a weird hump in it, like a cutter that is dull and leaves a hump on the cap. I don’t ever remember seeing that. The triple cap was sloppy and the wrapper was very scruffy looking. It was a bit toothy and the color was a medium brown with some greenish hues. The size was a 46 ring guage and 5 inches long. It felt a little springy when I squeezed it. After clipping it with my SAK I noticed that the draw was loose.

The initial flavors are bland. I get a pretty good volume of smoke, but not much flavor. The burn is slanted after only a half inch. It is pretty breezy on my back porch, so it’s hard for me to get much aroma. There are practically no flavors to speak of, and what is there is so bland I can’t identify anything.

After the first inch I started to get a little bit of pepper, but interestingly I get more flavor on the finish. The finish is a bit spicy. The smoke has a bitter and dry quality to it. The burn is really crooked at this point.

At the halfway point I purged the cigar in hopes of helping the flavors. After purging we got back to the pepper flavor, but there is no body or depth to the flavor profile at all. The finish is still more flavorful than the initial smoke. In fact the finish is a lot more enjoyable than the smoke itself. I don’t ever remember that happening before. The burn is still on a diagonal, no matter how many times I correct it, it just goes back to that diagonal.

During the last third the flavors got more bitter. The burn was like an ocean wave at this point and I had had enough. I decided to just let it go out. I really have no clue as to what this cigar was. I couldn’t even hazard a guess which I don’t like doing, but I just can’t come up with anything that defines what this cigar is.

If this isn't a PSD 4 I'll be amazed, I smoked one night before last from 03 and last night from 06, this one tastes young so I'm guessing 08-09 and PSD 4. Rated 89 with room to improve.

Overall Impresions:
This 5x50 had a somewhat ruff appearance with a nice tripal cap. Nice feel in the hand and firm to the to the touch no soft spots. Cigar produced nice ambient aroma but a somewhat dry short finish. Thru the nose presents w roasted nuts and a semi sweetness as well. 2nd produced some bitterness and still not much change.
3rd produced slightly more strength and body picked up as well. Leather presenting up front now with some woodiness as well. Last inch had spice showing the most.

Guess as to what the cigar was that you smoked?
HDM Epicure Especial?

Total score out of 100 points being the perfect cigar.
