  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Since there aren't any vultures in our area on here, I can speak freely about this.

I was at a local grocery store, yesterday, seeing if they perchance still had any of the Boulevard Chocolate Ale. I spied, with my little eye, an odd bottle I hadn't seen before. It was a Boulevard Saison. Now, I know they did a Saison-Brett this past year, but had never seen the Saison. I could not get my smartphone to be smart enough for a moment to research. So, I did not buy any.

When I got home, I found out, it was release apparently in 2008, as part of the original Smokestack Series releases. And discontinued in 2009.

Being a Saison, it's a huge chance it is crap. Some are no good after 6 months, some are peak at 2 years. So, last night, Dan ran up and grabbed a bottle for each of us. Tonight, we are going to pop the corks to see if they are any good. If they are, you better believe one of us is getting our ass up to that store to buy up the remaining 5 bottles or so!!

Just thought I would share this odd occurrence, and keep you posted!

A fantastic beer!!! There was a hint of fruitiness, some slight sweetness. A little reminiscent of a Riesling or a faint mead.

I was worried... Dan told me how great his bottle was, and when I went to pop the cork, not much "POP" at all. But poured with a very nice head on the glass!

And Dan is making our run, this morning, to get retrieve the remaining bottles!!!

It'll taste a little sweeter than it probably originally had since the hops have died down over the years. I'm sure with it being a saison though it's still plenty dry and hoppy enough because they finish with almost no sugar left.

So, Dan retrieved the remaining 3 bottles: one for him, one for me, and one for whatnot...

I recently discovered that the batch number on the back, S8060, means it was bottled on the 60th day of 2008. If you're clever enough, that's Leap Day, that year. I think I'll save my bottle until it's 4th birthday on Feb. 29th, this year!!

Happy Birthday, to my beer! LOL

Well, today is the 4 year anniversary of this batch, so I will be enjoying my last bottle of this delightful Saison tonight.
