  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over time BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Despite the occasional smirk and comment about the phallic nature of cigars – or perhaps prompted as a result of them – I prefer to think of a cigar as a wholly feminine entity. I hold her gently, admiring her complex beauty, while enjoying her exotic aromas; all so pleasing to a man of discernment. The enjoyment factors found in this hand-rolled puro from the Chaba Company called Brasil Autenticos, do nothing to betray this analogy.

For this review I smoked a Churchill vitola wrapped in Bahia’s Reconcava Valley’s world famous dark mata fina tobacco (seen above, alongside a connecticut wrapped robusto.) The pre-light draw was reminiscent of a faint bit of licorice, while the length of the body, just out of the cellophane, gave off the closest thing to a baker’s chocolate-like aroma I had ever smelled from a non-burning cigar. Though a bit veiny and rough textured, the length of the body was taunt and firmly resilient when squeezed. After clipping and lighting, this lady showed me what she was about. Very easy draw and a mouthful of pleasant, aromatic smoke that seemed to be extra “sticky,” if that be a possibility. All I know is that the aromas and tastes lingered in my mouth and around my head quite unlike any other cigar I have been smoking lately, holding my senses at length when requiring the thought time to write an observation. The initial aroma from the cut was not unlike black walnut. After filling up with drawn smoke, the body gave off more of a maple scent when passed under the nose, while the foot offered sharp, pungent autumn leaf-burning aromas. The taste left in the mouth after exhaling was nearly vegetable soup-like, but not the canned variety – rather that which is homemade from the very best ingredients. It was obvious from the start that this lady could cook.

Laying her down to write notes, she was not prone to giving off undue smoke, like so many unappreciated comments. She rested quietly, patiently and yet responded immediately and fully with lots of satin smooth smoke when coaxed by my lips. The burn was always even in a nice circular manner and the striking contrast of extra white ash against her dark body made her a pleasure to view when held away from my mouth. Swirling the smoke around in front of me, I found it bold with a “wake up” sting, but not at all unpleasant to partake. It seemed that, like a confident woman, the Brasil Autenticos left no doubt it could bring you to tears if mistreated. Mysterious and alluring, the taste that is left in the mouth a third of the way into this lady is as obscure as the aromas that come from an old jewelry box when opened. You know it is pleasing, but not exactly sure why.

Halfway down, an inch and a half ash drops off on its own when I lay her down to write some notes. The aroma coming from the cut has now evolved into something close to a sweet, fruity scent while the shoulder emits a mild willow-in-the-woods aroma. The foot seems faintly perfumed. The stick still feels firm and begs to be enjoyed as a total package – all the individual “almost aromas” joining for a richly exotic and entirely wonderful fragrance one can never fully understand but must merely appreciate with awe. I have never felt a “buzz” from a cigar - because I never inhale the smoke – but as I progressed, I felt light-headed; like a spell was being cast by this enchantress.

Toward the end of this definite finger-burner, sandalwood mixes with lavendar from the cut, as at the same time the smoke coming off the foot offers musky roasted nuts; sweet , warm and yet with enough force to remind me to explore the riches as often as possible. The final inch remains responsively firm to the touch, while the total fragrance package puts me in mind of sweet coconut – incomparable, somewhat inscrutable and yet.undeniable in its magic and ability to transfer the mind to some coastal paradise. Like a lady, this cigar is irresistible, alluring and fully deserving of a man’s love and appreciation.

Note -I Googled this Brazilian staple brand to see if it might be available through a distributor in the USA and found a site named www.redheadcigars.com
I emailed to see if I could mention the site in this review and got a bounceback undeliverable message. Someone might want to try the phone number offered on the “contact us” page, if you live in the states and want to give this Brasil Autenticos lady a dance.

Ah Bahia. Nothing like Brazilian puros.
Is there a good list of ones to start with, or a shop online to order some from? I remember hearing something in another thread about tobacco from brasil.

EDIT:
Crap hes got a link right in the post. I thought I was replying to his other review! They don't have online checkout working though, gotta e-mail or call. Hrm.
