Briar Cleaning

hey guys,

Just curious as to how you clean the briar part of your pipes... I know there is briar polish available. Is this what you use? I currently clean everything else other than the external briar on my pipes.

Also does the cleaning method differ from smooth to rusticated?

Every Sunday I make sure I have a beautiful clean bowl and shiny stem but the external briar on both my smooth and rusticated pipes is starting to look a little second hand.

Any info is appreciated !

What's this "clean" word you speak of? Must be some sort of Aussie slang.

Maybe just grab a microfiber cleaning close for the smooth ones? Could work on rusticated and blasts as well. And maybe a super soft brush to get dust out of the nooks and crannies.

I haven't read thru it all, but I bet there are some tips in there to cleaning the briar.

One of these days I should clean my rusticated pipes - dust builds up in the deep parts.

I bought some cloths that have carnauba wax on them and wipe the out side of the pipe when I'm done smoking them. It keeps them looking nice and shiny.

Lol yeah I know Ron, at first it was a novelty but now cleaning day it's like.... Damn I really don't want to. I really need to clean weekly though. Each week I have 3 pipes in my kit / rotation and I smoke all 3 every day so come Sunday they are ready for a bath. Thanks for the tips. I'll give it a try.

I will throw a muslin polishing wheel on my drill if one of my pipes is really starting to look dull.

I read on the web somewhere that you have to be careful with the paragon wax on early Peterson pipes as it will take some of the stain off
