  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Hey all, so my Xikar Xi2 that I got back in November broke a few days ago. I believe part of the spring mechanism broke since now I have to force it to open and there's no tension on one of the blades.

I'm well aware that Xikar will do a repair or replacement, but do they ever do refunds? I'm asking only because I keep hearing such good things about those Palio cutter (I've got my eye on the burl one) but as a college student it isn't exactly in my budget to spend another $50 on a cutter.

Anyone got some ideas? Thanks!

They'll surely only change it, no refund. The Palio just consider it part of the cigar budget.

EDIT - Check with Ron

Cigarmony has the palios for a good bit less than $50. The black finish palios are on sale now for about $35.

Moose, with a lifetime guarantee, asking for a refund would most likely not work. The Palio is a fine cutter, I've got several Xikars and Palio, they both cut fine. If you really want a Palio, screw the burl, it's not real burl, it's paint, and the regular black one cuts just as well. I have a carbon fiber Palio and every time I look at it I think what a waste of $15, I should've just gotten the black. Put the carbon fiber Palio next to the new Cohiba (real) carbon fiber lighter....you won't be so anxious to get the Palio in carbon.

I have a shipping lable for Xikar, so the shipping will be free. They will replace it for free.

Also I agree with Wade, the Black Palio is less at Cigarmony and at cigarsolutions, who are both sponsors here.

PM me your email addy and I'll send you a free shipping lable that you can use to return your lighter.

I was under the impression that you could walk in any retailer and exchange it, or at least that is what I was told?
Not sure on that, but even if you could, I'd never do that. Only reason is why put the burden on a B&M store that didn't sell you the cutter to begin with to have to package it up, ship it and go through the paperwork when in most cases you probably bought the cutter online anyway. .02

Well that's just the thing. My B&M owner here in Asheville is a total class act. I had an issue with another Xi2 that had a sticky blade and he told me that he couldn't do anything about that but his words to me were "Run over it with your car enough times to break it and I'll send to Xikar and give you one of mine in the store."

Problem was that yesterday when I went that owner wasn't there and they didn't seem to have any of the Xi2's they used to have. I'm going to go back tomorrow when he's there and hopefully something good will come of it. Either way I'm still temped to get one of those Palio's. Thanks guys!!!

Some things are just better left unsaid. IMHO, this just screams scam. Sorry, but just the way I see it, reading your posts in this thread, it just seems like you feel you made the wrong purchasing decision and are now just trying to get a refund on your Xikar to purchase something else. Suck up the bad decision, we've all made them and save for the next one you want. It's the right thing to do. Again, just MHO.

Hey Volusianator, I could definitely see why you would think he was being sarcastic, but he was dead serious because that's what I thought at first. Also, to clear up some confusion i talked to a Xikar rep and she said that the cutter could be replaced at any Xikar dealer. So what the B&M owner said was true, he's just a little quirky...

Either way I'm thinking I may pick up either a Palio or that Xikar MTX tool. Just not sure which one is better for me. I'm thinking that for a super precise cap cut the scissors may be easier, but I'm saying this having never tried scissors.

I'm not saying he was being sarcastic, just that's the problem with our society. Abuse the system, even at the B&M level. How often do you think this happens? How many Xikars are sent back that really never needed to be, but were abused for the warranty? How much does that add to the initial cost of the product, I mean warranty replacement has to factor in to cost. Just sayin'

I just thought I'd provide an update on my situation.

Earlier today I walked into my local shop with my broken cutter. I showed it to the owner and he immediately went under the counter and picked out a new one and handed it to me. I said "Is that all I need to do?" and he replied "Well you need to shake my hand as well." Man do I love small cigar shops!

I told him that I figured that he'd be that helpful so I gifted him a 5 Vegas 'A' to try.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that my shop exchanged the cutter with no questions asked. Awesome stuff!

if you decide on a palio, i'd go with cigar solutions. They will send you a new one, if, like, your dogs eat it (the carbon fiber is just a finish). Cigar Money will not.
