Gary was very generous with a sampler pack of these cigars. I smoked only the Churchill sized one so far which is a size I prefer. Don't know if that's the correct name they have for this size as I've seen it called the Prominentes on their website which may or may not be for the Reserva line. The packaging is top notch. Cohiba Behike came to mind when I opened up the package. Cardboard outer, glossy finished wooden box covered in felt. Shiny hinges with the BTF embedded.
I didn't want to review this cigar having only smoked one of them but I felt I had to because it definitely met my high expectations from reading some great feedback on them. I was a little worried about smoking it so soon after receiving them and because they were so oily and rather soft and spongy. They do look and smell delicious for sure. My wife, who doesn't like cigars, couldn't stop smelling the cigars when I showed them to her lol.
Now onto the cigars performance. The cold draw had like a tangy, soft sweet leathery note. As I started it off I got a strong peppery, spicy note that kind seemed a bit much for me. That lasted only through the first quarter. Wasn't unpleasant but I think that's the only place this cigar showed any youth.
It was crazy how this cigar just seemed to change throughout. After the cigar over came the beginning it just seemed to smooth out as it went on. Notes of leather followed by coffee, then sweet hints here and there of graham, cinnamon, and vanilla. No joke, my wife even took a couple draws near the midpoint of this cigar...and she liked it. Crazy!!!! The aroma from start to finish on this bad boy was very pleasant. Nubbed this one and no tar built up. The burn got a little uneven at points, with just a couple touchups. I thought I would have trouble keeping this guy lit but didn't. Overall this is one son of a gun. Will definitely be buying them. Will update this thread as I smoke through the other two which is a pyramid and a short robusto looking one.
