  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

Now that I have a butane torch, I'm curious as to what brand of butane is your favorite for keeping your torch fueled :scratchhe? It's just a Ronson so not like I really have to use super nice butane (so I've read in various places), but I'd like to possibly skirt the issues with using cheap butane. I don't want to have to rob a bank either. I was leaning towards picking up some Xikar butane, but thought I'd see what was available locally and what the opinion of BOTL was.

I hear a lot of people use Ronson fluid in their Ronson lighters. I have Xikar lighters, and I use Xikar fluid. It happens to be what is sold at the shop with my locker, and they have a giant cannister of it for like $8-win/win.

Some 4x refined butane I get from my B&M. Don't know the brand off hand though.

I vote for the Xikar Purofine Premium Butane or the Vector Quintuplus 5X.

I prefer the Xikar because it has the built-in plastic tip rather than the metal tip used on the Vector Butane.

Dan, don't put Ronson butane in anything you own!!!!

Vector... Xikar was good, but I feel like my lighters are burning a bit better with the Vector (and it's cheaper...) It's the only thing I still buy from CI and it's hella cheap.

The smell of the butane that Ronson prefills their lighters with is absolutely disgusting IMO. I used Zippo Blu one time, wouldn't do that again, but the Ronson still takes the cake. Purged those lighters twice after buying them.

Larry, those big bottles from Ronson come with a bunch of different tips.

The Xikar tip is plastic and I just feel it seals better on the lighter fuel tip. Vector comes with the multi-tips and I just don't feel they are exactly right, that's all.

Ironically, I found it to be the opposite. Everyone's got different tips I guess. lol. Too much alcohol tonight.

I've been using Ronson for over 8 months with no problems... but once my bottle runs out, it looks like I'll be switching to play it safe. Thanks for the heads up guys.
