  • BOTL UPCOMING MAINTENANCE

Hi Everyone, as mentioned in my introduction post, BOTL needs quite a bit of updating, patching and whatever else I might come across. Over the next few weekends BOTL may be unreachable on occasion as I do migrations or updates, etc. Just be patient - we'll be back! I'll generally try to keep these maintenances until later in the evenings.

So I have a few questions about butane refills. So I bought a can of Xikar butane to refill my Ronson Jetlite. Didn't use the whole can, and the fill should last a while. Is the can going to still be good when I need to use it again? Like it doesn't go bad, or slowly leak out or anything right? Also, anybody notice any difference between brands, say like Colibri, Vector, and Xikar? They're all more refined than the Ronson butane, so it seems to me that they should all perform the same and just pick up the cheapest, but if one makes a difference I would rather use that.

butane lasts. no issues on shelf life.

as far as type uses, for me i just use a big a$$ can of something with multiple refinements and filtrations. i find it is more about how you fill, and maintenance of the lighter, than what you use.

YMMV o)

Like Sean said, should have no problems with butane lasting.

As far as the brands, as long as its triple (I think triple) refined you should be good to go. When I first started I used the cheap grocery store butane to refill a lighter and ruined my lighter. It stopped working after about a month, although the lighter itself wasn't the best.

Good to know everyone, thanks. I at least figured out that even though I have a cheap Ronson, I shouldn't be using the Ronson fuel. Been thinking about pickup a slightly nicer lighter, so thats where I would be more concerned about not screwing it up. And I didn't do too bad of a job refilling the Ronson, so hopefully I've got the learning curve figured out for something that I care about more.

It will last forever (almost). I use Vector because it has the highest refinement count (5) of the major brands. It can be had for cheap online and very cheap on CBid specifically.
